Hi All
re: Bobby - which is set in the Ambassador Hotel in the run-up to RFK's primary speech at which he was assassinated
Can anyone please explain to this bear of little brain why the following fwfrs were approved for this film: Randall - Ensemble meets at Ambassador. cjd - Ambassador witnesses anti-war assassination. Whipper - Assassination prompts Ambassador's recall. redPen - Ambass-assination.
But this one of mine was declined with no reason given: Ambassador prepares for assassination. I made a new submission which was also declined with no reason given: Ambassador prepares beFore assassination. And for this one I provided a 100 character explanation.
There must be something I'm not seeing, but dunno what. Help gratefully received!
Clueless in my prattle, and much TIA, b.

I can only speak for mine, Babe. I didn't present the hotel as something that can actually DO something, such as prepare.

But a hotel is more than just a physical building...it's a business, with a staff. It's an organization. That makes it an entity capable of carrying out tasks. Those reviews definitely have direct links to the film. |

I'm thinking the problem is with "prepares". You see, the Ambassador Hotel itself didn't prepare for or before anything. And despite the fact that RFK was an Ambassador, it sounds like he was preparing to be assasinated (and while he might have been a bit worried, I doubt he was that paranoid). If you used "Ambassador preparations, before assassination" - that might fix it.

"Assassination prompts Ambassador's recall" Whippa would like to explain that the film prompts us to recall the era of the Ambassador Hotel, an LA institution, in the context of Bobby's assassination. So it makes literal sense as well as having a misleading but logical sense, as ambassadors are not infrequently recalled after such traumatic events as assassinations.
"Ambassador prepares for assassination". Well, no-one at the Ambassador was preparing for an assassination, they were preparing for a campaign speech. So it is not literally true, so it's a no-no.
(I don't agree with the view that "The Ambassador" is just a building which can't do anything. Of course "The Ambassador" can be used to mean the building and everyone associated with it, in the same way as we use "The White House". The whole point about the film is that the Ambassador is so much more than just a building.)
Exactly why "Ambassador prepares beFore assassination" was refused I can't say, but the "beFore" (with capital F) does nothing for me at all I'm afraid. Fugedabowdit.
I would guess that the same review, without the capital F, would be acceptable but it's about as exciting as a date with Thelma Ritter.
Sorry Thelma.
Forgot to ask: what has pease got to do with this anyway?

As Whipper mentioned, if this was re-written as:-
Ambassador prepares before assassination.
it should be fine, as before the assassination the hotel was preparing for something (what they were preparing for doesn't matter as it isn't stated in the review).
Like Whipper, I didn't get the reason for the capital "F"? What was it that we both missed? |

well, I was trying to be too clever for my own good and hoped to imply that as well as the preparations they knew about, they were unwittingly preparing for the sad, unexpected fatal event.
Ah, well ...

Sorry, love, would you mind PMing me ... I'm not sure what you're unclear about, and would like to move on from this thread.
I'm really grateful to all of you who've helped me understand that my intention didn't transfer. Honestly, it's no biggie!

It might be because "RFK, JFK reunited" is taken.
OR this is just a sleazy attempt to get votes.
