Amusing, but obscure? Think I'll let somebody else play, tho.

P.S. Buncha geese? Gaggle.

Laurel and Hardy try and carry a player piano up a flight of stairs, a job that proves almost impossible for a variety of reasons.

Sisyphus was the crafty, and equally hubristic, founder of Corinth. When he died, he tricked Thanatos into securing himself in chains originally meant for Sisyhphus, thus, effectively, killing death. He was eventually sent to Tartarus, where he was charged with rolling a massive rock up a steep hill, but before he reached the top, the rock would escape his grasp, and he had to start anew.

The reference is obscure - if you know the reference it's very straightforward.

Incidentally, if it's amusing, it is available for voting at absolutely no cost!

Precisely. This should be a platform for all those obscure reviews, and also a more interactive way of trying to figure out exactly what on earth they're on about. If people like the reviews, they should feel free to vote for them. Maybe we can do this in rounds like FCYTH or MIHAI?

Quite a coincidence here. Before checking this thread, I posted my FYC offerings for this round and supplied explanations (which I very rarely do) for the reason stated in the post.

Full marks to Ali, who I knew would get it. After all, Sisyphus is virtually his next door neighbour.

Anyway, its interesting how this tragic ancient Greek metaphor becomes high comedy in the hands of L&H.

Incidentally, in Ice Cold In Alex the legend is played out again, for drama, as the ambulance has to be carefully cranked up the sand dune, only to crash down again due to human failings.

So off you go Ali.

Thanks, Whipper.

Here's another quite cryptic one.

Let's get more people involved.

I guess you're referencing Johnny Clegg's song Asimbonanga.

Indeed. Asimbonanga, which means "We have not seen him," became a rallying cry of the Anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa during the 1980's.

Footage from Poor Cow was used as flashback footage for Terrence Stamp's Wilson in The Limey.

Try this one.

At a guess, this is an adaptation of macbeth but they use the reference to
"Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive"
which is from another play, Othello or King Lear.

No, that quote is not Shakespeare, it belongs to Sir Walter Scott. But that's not it. Another title for this movie is "Cobweb Castle".

If that's right, let's see if anyone can figure out what this review refers to.
