If ever you need knocking off your pedestal or bringing down a peg or two, take a look at how other users of IMDb rate your reviews.

Out of curiosity I just went through all 14 of the reviews I've 'published' on IMDb. Not a pretty sight: several haven't provoked a reaction at all, and quite a few others have a dismal record. Below you'll find the title and year of the film, the date of my review and the 'score' (the number of people who, having decided to register an opinion, concluded that the review was at least moderately useful):

1. About Schmidt (2002) 18 April 2004 (0 out of 1) [in three years!]
2. Anatomie de l'enfer (2004) 30 July 2005 (2 out of 3)
3. Batbabe (1995) (V) 2 January 2005 (-)
4. Crimes of Passion (1984) 27 February 1999 (-) [8 years of obscurity]
5. Every Breath (1993) 1 March 2001 (-)
6. Independence Day (1996) 26 December 2000 (-) [in six years!]
7. Lust for Freedom (1987) 18 April 2004 (1 out of 5)
8. Pretty Peaches (1978) 20 March 1999 (8 out of 8) [this score I love]
9. Pro urodov i lyudey (1998) 6 April 2002 (1 out of 2)
10. Roll (2004) (TV) 17 January 2005 (4 out of 6)
11. Rude Boy (1980) 13 May 2001 (-)
12. Sadomania - Hlle der Lust (1981) 27 November 2005 (2 out of 3)
13. The Stepford Wives (2004) 29 May 2005 (-)
14. Titanic (1997) 3 January 1999 (23 out of 49) [26 people took the trouble to register their supreme indifference to my talent]

How have you fared? Please tell me you've done just as badly.

I've got one review at IMDb, for Roll, and it got 6 out of 8 approvals (thanks, fwfrers! ).

Koli, your post just illustrates my reasons for not bothering writing reviews at IMDb. I never bother reading others' reviews, hence I wouldn't expect anyone to read mine, hence I don't write any. They're far too long and often poorly written by semi-literate morons. About all I use at IMDb is the score; it tells me whether to watch a movie or not.

Reviews should be short and concise. How about.... say... four words?

Koli, I saw this post a long time ago and have been meaning to ask you. Did you ever get your hands on a copy of this title?

I have two reviews up there that one out of one people found useful, four reviews that no one bothered to even vote on, one review that two out of four people found useful and one review that zero out of four people found useful. Pretty poor, if you ask me.

But don't sweat it. If you want your movie reviews to be noticed (and maybe make money with them as well) put them up on a review site instead. May I suggest you start writing seriously for DooYoo? Since I've been posting there (January 2005) I've earned over 360 British Pounds! I cash them in for Amazon.co.uk vouchers and buy CDs and DVDs (and sometimes books). What have you got to lose?

I only wrote three for IMDB, and two are mostly ignored. However, the nadir is the one I wrote for The Passion of Joan of Arc, which I gave a 6/10 and called 'vastly overrated' (something I still stand by). 4 people out of 21 found that one useful.

If you think that's embarassing, my STARmeter has gone down 53% since last week! I really need a new agent.

I have four reviews up on IMDB.

For Love of the Game has a 10 out of 12.
The Chamber has 3 out of 3.
Blast from the Past has 1 out of 1.
and 10.5 has 2 out of 4.

I rarely try to write a review on IMDB, it's just too much work :)

Yep, helps to explain why I've only written 14 in the past eight years. I still don't know why I bothered. Certainly wasn't for the money or the adoration.

Semi-literate, eh? No one on IMDb has been that flattering about my reviews. I could get to like you.

As you probably guessed, I wasn't actually looking for one. I just had a compulsion to answer the question, since all those months later no one else had. I expect "moosechees" had a flutter of excitment when (s)he realised that someone had responded. Imagine the disappointment.

Guy, your IMDb profile is more impressive every time I look at it.

As for your drop in popularity, is it possible you've been seen out with Britney Spears?
