I'd walk out on anyone who walked out on a zombie flick.
There's nothing funnier than an animated rotting human corpse who's come back from the dead to eat live human flesh or brains. |

Now that was a gorgeous picture. Isn't it remarkable, which things happen to float different people's boats? |

Don't let anyone call you a romantic! Of course, Terms wasn't the best film I've ever seen, but I did like it and would watch it to the end.
I agree with you on Tom Cruise, but I'd also walk out on any Mel Gibson film. Actually, I wouldn't even walk into any Mel Gibson film these days, and everytime I see he's in a film on TV, I make a point of not watching it.

Night of the Living Diptheria.
Nope, that's not as funny. |

You are wrong about all of the above.

The above four generalisations are also wrong. Walking out of, for example, School of Rock, The Night of the Living Dead, Remains of the Day, and Magnolia makes you a worse cinema-goer, not a better one.

Going to make more enemies than friends with that list, RedPen. Personally, I wholeheartedly agree with Meet Joe Black, and I suspect I would agree with you on James Ivory, but I've never seen one of his films so I can't make that judgment.
However, anyone who would dismiss any zombie film is no friend of mine, sir. No friend at all. Probably the best genre of horror, certainly the darkest and most nihilistic, anyone who would throw out the genre entire has highly, highly questionable taste in movies. I'm not huge fans of Terms of Endearment or The Lost World, but I think they're both pretty solid. Your dismissals of Jack Black and Tom Cruise dispose of such masterpieces as King King '05, High Fidelity, Collateral, War of the Worlds '05, Eyes Wide Shut and Jerry Maguire.

Gah. This stuff drives me up the wall. I thought this was a forum for movie fans! Why do you (and this goes for many of you) make such limiting decisions to what you'll watch? Do you like movies or not?? |

I like movies.
I don't like raging anti-Semites that should be marginalized but end up getting a free pass because they're money-making machines for Hollywood. |

Zombie movies rock. I can't wait for World War Z. I guess I better finally read the book. |

Do you like Chinatown? I like Chinatown. Or Annie Hall? Also a personal fave of mine. How about the Naked Gun movies? Hee hee. Makes me laugh every damn time. Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Fuckin' classic, man. |

I adored that film when it first came out.
When I viewed it again 20 years later, I could see that it has not aged well. I still love it, though, just for sentimental reasons. |

Yeah, I do: those movies were either made by or starred assholes of a much higher caliber than Mel Gibson. I mean, whadda we have here: In no particular order, I see a rapist, a murderer, a pedophile, and Woody Allen. I happen to like Polanski movies, despite the fact that he is most likely guilty of the very horrible crime he's been accused of.
Maybe you feel comfortable doing it, but I don't feel comfortable at all dismissing films, some of which are fantastic cinema, just because someone working on it is a repellent human being. |

Okay, first of all, there's a LOT to the Pulanski case you probably don't know about, not the least of which is the District Attorney initiating a plea negotiation, followed by the judge bringing more serious charges as a direct result of political pressure, not to mention the questionable role the girl's mother may have played in the whole "incident." We don't even know that he did anything...we know that he plead guilty as part of the plea negotiation, but he was essentially tricked into doing that since the judge was about to throw out the sentencing recommendation and give a much more serious punishment for the charge Pulanski had agreed to plead guilty for as part of the deal. The guilty plea should be considered the fruit of a tainted tree.
Comparing OJ Simpson's brief appearance in a movie that predates the crime he was suspected of committing to Mel Gibson's free ride through Hollywood after the things he said is so utterly absurd I'm not even going to touch that one.
And what's your problem with Woody Allen? The fact that he had an affair with an ADULT that was significantly younger than him? Yeah...that's comparable to Mel Gibson claiming that the Jews are hounding him and that we're at fault for all the problems of the world, then being defended by a bunch of "friends" that don't want to lose him as a member of their professional networks.
You're sitting there at your keyboard condemning me for not wanting to give my money to a man that clearly hates me for no reason at all except that I don't share his religious beliefs, and spreads vicious lies about me and my people doing horrible things to the world. I'm trying very hard to respect your opinion but I'd suggest you back away from this issue.
At the very least, you should take a good long look at where you rank Mel Gibson on a list of "assholes," as he perpetuates the very same false stereotypes that were used to justify the single largest act of genocide in history just a couple generations ago. |
