There's an element of 'tongue-in-cheekness'. It's not relevant to the thread but it's more fun than slagging off others's reviews in public. |

Because all English people are polite? A complete fallacy of course, but which endures nonetheless. Spend an afternoon on Oxford Street (probably the grimmest street in London these days) and see your illusions shattered. |

Will you just get back to writing your mountains of banal witless reviews and leave the rest of us in peace??

Things do have a way of getting miserable quickly these days, don't they.
Koli makes a 'polite' joke at the expense of American manners, turrell ripostes with equally harmlessly by attributing said poor American manners to a desire to 'distance ourselves from England' and it just goes downhill from there.
Lighten up Sal, you can't possibly read anything offensive into that exchange.
CankleFetish - if you click 'edit' on your original post and remove the names, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it |

If you are speaking of kicking British butt, I suggest eating Captain Cook was sufficient. |

You have a 231-year memory then?
I'm not entirely serious, but I recall hearing people in the Balkans talking about a 600-year memory when discussing reasons for conflict. |

Yes, of course. Don't know what I was thinking. My most sincere apologies.
One question: can we English say suck-arse? I like the way Americans can add the word ass onto the ends of other words (suck, lame, dumb etc) as Mr Fetish did in his ill-advised debut post. |

I bet they only did it so one of them could make the joke: "My compliments to the cook!"
And then they'd all start laughing and one of them would join in saying, "That's a nice piece of ass!" And they'd all laugh harder and some of them would cry a bit too and hold their stomachs. Then when they'd all stopped chuckling they might feel a bit bad for eating the world's greatest explorer, but it was still a good joke. |

According to local lore Captain Cook was eaten as a sign of respect, to absorb his "manna" or attributes and power. |
