I thought of it and was supprised it was not already there.
Had already voted for most of the reviews posted here.

I love thinking of a review and like you Josh being sure that it has to be there already and reading through all the other great reviews until i get to the end and realising that i'm the first to get there.
Sure isn't that part of the fun? |

West Side Story
What I like about this review is that apart from abab rhyme, it is an interesting play on the phrase "Sibling rivalry." |

First, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my second page is pretty darned good, if a little vote-anemic. But if I had to narrow it down to one, it's this first one for Jaws. Why? Because I love reviews which reduce movies down to random little details like this, as if the whole point of the movie had been to find that license plate. (Plus, that particular review was quoted in an article about FWFR as an example of a "weird" review.)
I don't do a lot of vote-pimping for my reviews on the Fourum, maybe because I got spoiled in my first few months here at FWFR when votes came spilling in by the dozens without my having to do anything. Maybe now that the votes have all but dried up, I should start trying to "sell" them a little more on the message boards, but I just can't bring myself to do that. I'd rather people just find the reviews on their own and vote because they genuinely like them, even if that means only getting a handful of votes per week. |

Let's not assume that people who showcase their reviews are getting votes from other fwfrs who don't genuinely like those reviews.
Maybe what's happening is showcasing provides a platform for reading reviews without having to plough through the now almost a quarter of a million reviews on site, and, if a fwfr sees a review they genuinely like, then they can vote on it.
In The Lady Eve Barbra Stanwyck has the line "If a girl sat around waiting for a man to propose to her she'd die of old-maidenhood". Well, something like that happens to fwfrs who sit around waiting for others to find their reviews.
Isn't it also fair to assume that if a review gets a lot of votes having been showcased then some people actually enjoyed reading it? Therefore showcasing is a public service!

I agree. I, for one, with work, studies, and family commitments do not have much time to check in on this site each week, so the fourums are a great way for me to get reviews I like out there to see what others think, and to view the fine work that others are doing as well.
Joe, I sometimes vote on your reviews when I peruse a film's page before submitting my own review, but I would certainly welcome the chance to see more of your stuff in FYCTH, MIHAI, etc.
"Vote-pimping" seems such a negative way to view the system. Obviously, no one is require to vote on any review that they don't deem worthy in some way.
Fittingly, the weekly entries are called "For Your Consideration," rather than "For Your Solicitation." We are not prostituting ourselves.

For the record, I have nothing against people who participate in the mutually-benefitial vote-swapping threads. Heck, I'm participating in one right now. It's just that, on the average, I'd rather people found my reviews on their own without my pointing to them. For me, the most satisfying thing on FWFR is when some long-forgotten, zero-voted review finally gets its first vote. (Well, getting a bunch of votes for a brand-new review is pretty nice, too.) |

I don't think this happens these days. I used to participate in the "you vote for mine and I'll vote for yours" threads but can't be bothered any more. The only exception is FYCTH for my new reviews, I FYCTH them to give them a head start.
I receive very few votes (perhaps 1-2 per week out of my 1400) on reviews that aren't entered in FYCTH. I'd guess this means that people aren't too interested in reading other users's reviews unless they know they're going to get some votes in return. Perhaps this is a reflection on the average quality of new reviews these days, i.e., the good ideas are mostly taken and it's getting harder and harder to be original and come up with clever/funny reviews. I suppose there's only so much you can do with four words. |

I've always liked the fact that this review references Dorothy's surname. Gale caught by tornado. |

I think it's more like the latter than the former. I happily vote without the expectation of votes in return (e.g. I don't post to say that I've voted when new reviewers are highlighted), but I just don't find trawling through pages worth it any more - there are too many reviews I'm not interested in (although these are of course valid to submit) to make it worthwhile looking at the most recent reviews (either overall or for a certain film) and I have looked at the top reviews for most past films that I'm going to. |

I always read and vote on reviews for a film I'm about to review. If I notice some good reviews I'll pop into that fwiffer's pages. If they are someone with reviews in the hundreds - or thousands - I start at their 'bottom' pages.
I do like these different threads that highlight people's reviews though. This one has been of particular quality.
