It's not that bad, but it doesn't serve any function given the existence of the far superior Saw.

The genre is getting worn thin. Actually, it's not even a genre...it's just a single hook dragged out for the length of the film. Do Hollywood execs and writers actually say to themselves "let's copy those dozens of other films out there," or do they actually believe they're conceiving original ideas?
