I certainly won't be voting on any Deathly Hallows reviews. When I see one on the new reviews page, I put my hand to the screen and find a link to click on fast. |

I don't think there would be any dangerous precedent set if Deathly Hallows reviews were suspended for a couple of months. The movie isn't even out for another couple of years.
I'm with Conan--let's suspend approvals until the end of September. Or can we make sure the reviews don't pop up on the front page?
If nothing is done, I may skip the site until I've read the book--just in case.

This might be a fair compromise! Does anyone else agree? |

Of course it would not be dangerous, but of course it would be a precedent.
I don't want to read spoilers for this book/film either, but there are plenty of things I'd rather avoid spoilers for - things which are good, for example. |

This is exactly what I mean. Salopian is obsessive about spoilers, and has a very liberal definition of the term. I don't know why we should limit the site or ourselves regarding information that is now, six days into the release of the book, readily available everywhere. If we do so out of kindness and respect for our fellow members, then I don't know where we can draw the line. I have just bought The Golden Compass, and will read it before the film comes out. Can I request all reviews be suspended, or the review page hidden, just because I hopped on the bandwagon a few years too late?
I mean, I don't have a strong opinion either way, really. It's just that this precedence will no doubt end up being a common practice, and, knowing all of you weirdos, it will then end up being zealously pursued, and thus, according to Ovid (Abeunt studia in mores), turn into a habit, and, eventually, into a de facto rule. This website is supposed to be fun. And, contrary to what Monica Geller once said, rules don't help control the fun, they fucking destroy it.

This isn't true.

All this is true, though. |

It's not a pejorative, Salopian; your definition is very liberal considering mine.

Yes, I hadn't thought of it like that. I just meant that people here, when talking about dealing with 'spoilers', frequently suggest that loads of things could be spoilers which are just plot points (i.e. to suggest that avoiding giving spoilers is an impossible task) - I am always stating that only a small minority of films can possibly have spoilers. |

Yep I agree that there aren't that many movies that have major plot twists, or where the desire by many to not know something prior to watching/reading is very strong. HP7 is one of these.
The simple solution (as has been suggested earlier in the thread) would be for MERPs to MERP reviews in order, i.e., not seek out HP7 and process reviews. This would mean HP7 reviews wouldn't appear on the site for six weeks or so (the current wait-time). This would be fair (as older reviews for other movies would be processed before HP7 reviews) and would not set any precedent that we need to worry about.
Pottermaniacs would then have six weeks or so to read the book before seeing spoiler reviews. My guess is that if they haven't read it by then, then it will already be too late for anyone other than troglodytes, as far too many people have read it and will be talking about it at bus stops etc. |

As long as we don't create a precedent, it sounds good to me. What do you think, Salopian?

Sounds fair. (I saw a friend last night who said that she read it in six hours, so six weeks should be ample! I haven't even read the fifth one yet...) |

I'm just starting that one now, myself. I want to read the book before I see the movie.
(Haven't seen Goblet yet, however. Missed it in the theatres, but got it on DVD and someone borrowed it and now we can't remember who!)
