Nope - not even Enterprise brought in any "new fans." And Voyager is considered amonst trekkies to be the worst Trek show. Personally, I like it.

Really I suppose that explains why they canned it. |

The biggest problem with Quinto is his voice - its high and childish, and a touch on the scratchy side. Nimoy's was always deep, smooth velvety, calming, reassuring. For Quinto to really "get" Spock he'll have to work on his voice quality. If not, they'll need to find someone else young for the cast who has a sexy voice (like a young Patrick Stewart).
Remember that on HEROES he was playing a childlike omnipotent. I can't be sure that's his only voice -- but even so, he's gonna be a YOUNG Spock. And yes, STAR TREK's fan base is definitely long in the tooth, which is why I still think it was a fine casting decision. |

As for him playing Spock, we all know that Vulcans are supposed to be devoid of emotion, so even if you still think that he's stiffer than a corpse after you see that episode, it might not be all bad.
Yeah but the whole point of the Spock character is that he's half human, and that human side is MUCH more evident than he wants to admit. |

Come again?
There's a reason ENT was cancelled while VOY made it through its run. It was ENT that finally drove the fans away. Plenty of Trekkers have criticized VOY, but it never attracted the vicious animosity ENT got...and deserved. |

I really liked the Voyager series too. I thought that was garnering a young audience?
Since the franchise's high water mark with TNG, every series has gotten lower ratings than the one before. The audience has SHRUNK with each show, not grown.

WIth technology today, couldnt they just have old clips of him and just put in new words? |

Why not just do what Francis Coppola did when he couldn't re-book the actor for GODFATHER II: "He's dead, Jim." Easy as pie. |

| Star Wars made a mistake adding Jar-Jar to get younger fans to watch. I hope Star Trek doesnt make the same mistake. Adding Sylar from Heroes was a big play for Star Trek. |

I can't help thinking of the early scene in Heroes when Hiro is being hauled away by his Boss.
His friend shouts " Use Death-Grip-U Spock! " |

The only problem I have with this guy playing any character is that every time I see him I think "Oh my God... that's AussieCanuck!" (pre-beard I should add).
Maybe I've been looking at the wrong photos, mind |

I would rather dive head first into a pool of my own vomit than see Scotty turned into Livia Soprano. |

Maybe they'll get Billy Connolly to do Scotty's part?

I think Enterprise is the worst of the lot. I find Voyager interesting enough to watch on daytime reruns while I eat lunch or whatever, but it didn't intrigue me enough when it was current that I made an effort to see it the way I do Battlestar Galactica. (Until Tricia Helfer came along as Six in BSG, I thought Jeri Ryan as 7of9 was the most beautiful woman on TV.)
Personally, I think DS9 was the best of them all. I saw hardly any of the eps while it was current, but I enjoy the reruns very much. I enjoy the way it brings faith and religion into a mix with science. I found the main characters likeable. |
