Often I find that IMDb doesn't have any information on what an older movie is about. They have lots and lots on newer films, but the older ones are sadly lacking. But today I found out that the Turner Classic Movie site has their own database, which concentrates on giving us information about these old flicks.

So, if you're chasing an accolade with old films that IMDb can't help you with, I suggest you check out the TCM Movie Database. Bookmark it - it may come in very handy!

I've had the Turner Classic Movies database bookmarked for over a year. Their programming schedule is very handy.

P.S.: ChocolateLady, I'm sorry I called you a cunt.

Excellent tip, CL! I've sometimes failed to include films in my accolades because imdb has neither a plot summary, user comments nor external reviews to give FWFRers a chance.

The TCM database is not only large, but kept well updated. There're also a few others that are useful, too. Filmsite isn't so extensive because it's primarily an extended fan site for older films, and it takes a minute to find your way around, but - just as an example - here's the page for Letter From an Unknown Woman which is pretty good and you get a nice original poster image, too. Of course - unless you turn off pop-ups, you also get ads featuring sexy women, but, you know, from what I've seen on this site over the past year and half -- some people might not mind

I also use Classic Film Guide - again, not a vast database, but, as CL says - it comes in handy.

I wish we had a little section, maybe called Library or something, where we could build up a FWFRer-suggested collection of 3rd-party reference sites.

Great post, Chocolate Lady!

Unfortunately, even with the popups blocked and turned off, I found Filmsite unusable.

But even that Classic site doesn't have anything on one movie you just added to the DB here - Lightnin' Wins. I submitted something, but it really is a generic review.

You know what? I'm going to take off Lightnin' Wins -- even though it probably is his first documented film appearance. I'm going to substitute Arizona Bound, a 1927 oater, and to give you a starting chance, here's some info [just added it to fwfr database, too!]

BTW - I think the Midnight Palace sometimes has some good stuff -- but nothing truly obscure. And a good links page.

And how could I forget the brilliantly researched British Film Institute site with a pretty decent database.

I have always enjoyed the All Movie Guide that is part of AMG: All Media Guide. Thanks to everyone for the heads up on the other film guides.

I prefer voting on reviews with some information too.
