Martin Scorsese + The Rolling Stones = Heaven

It doesn't get any better than this.

Not that I'm upset nobody had anything to say about it, but I find it impossible to believe that nobody cares that one of the world's best filmmakers is releasing a documentary about one of rock's greatest bands.

But if this means I'll have the whole theater to myself, then so be it! I'm going to enjoy the movie...and the music.

LOL thanks for the tip. We'll discuss its awesomeness after it comes out, instead of its potential awesomeness now.

See, now, discussing how much potential a film has is a whole lot easier with fictional movies than it is with documentaries. See, we can argue about how good/bad actor X would be in a certain part, or how good/bad director Y is with a certain genre, but a documentary is... the real thing. That Scorsese is the director doesn't do more than change the hype from "Stones" to "Stones by Scorsese". If you like both, then you'll probably like the film. If you dislike either, than you'll probably dislike the film. So, the discussion would be more about liking or disliking the Stones and/or Scorsese than the potential film itself.

The Stones are not equivalent to a blow job.

[On second thought, maybe you're right: they are!!!]

What we can talk about now, at least after it screens on the Sundance Channel later this month, is Bogdanovich's four hours on Tom Petty!

I'd love to discuss that, Randall, but I already have plans to beat my head against a wall and that still sounds like a lot more fun.

Yeah, I know, I didn't have half a day to spare when it screened at NYFF, but I've set my DVR for the Sundance Channel on the 29th. If it turns out to be interesting, great. If not, zappola, no foul.

I can't fucking wait for this. The trailer looks awesome, and Shine A Light is one of my favourite tunes. The latter has no bearing on anything, mind.

"Shine A Light" is an amazing tune.

But "Ventilator Blues" and "Loving Cup" are still better.

Re Petty: the joke may be on us, town:

I've now seen the first half, up to the incendiary recording of DAMN THE TORPEDOES, during which Petty was sueing the shit out of his own label [successfully, as it turned out, but they didn't know that while in the studio, thus the title], and so far it's very fine.

Once I get thru my second sitting and complete the screening [and yes, it's a long-ass piece], if I still feel this way, I'll host a thread for the brave...

I saw it all. It's good. You're collapsing 30 years into only four hours, so it's interesting, for instance, to see the original DAMN THE TORPEDOES bass player come back after being replaced by a brilliant guy who gradually turned into a smackhead. I'm heading into another thread to discuss it.
