Benj

I've noticed that reviews have been going through the pipeline much quicker recently, for which I'm very grateful.

However, I've also been getting some very strange refusals. I've mentioned elsewhere the TITLE PLAY ONLY refusals which clearly are not title plays only, and I've just got today three TOO GENERIC refusals, none of which are and two of which don't look vaguely generic.

For example, for REACH FOR THE SKY I wrote "Nothing stumps Bader". Now how on earth can anyone reject this as too generic? How? This is THE film about Bader and - bit of a spoiler here I'm afraid - his leg situation features prominently.

For SYRIANA I wrote "Eventually everything Connex" - Connex is the name of the corporation. Now how can this be too generic? Are there zillions of films featuring Connex? And in them various apparently disparate strands come together in the ending? I don't think so.

So, what I'm asking is, how can anyone actually refuse these reviews on the grounds of TOO GENERIC? Is there someone new who misunderstands what the term means?

Well, I wasn't going to say anything but my Beaufort review "IDF's Lebanon retreat/retreat" was also called "too generic" and I happen to know that there isn't any other film about the IDF pull-out from Lebanon (and I added an explination that they have to leave (retreat from) a fortress (a type of retreat). Still, I deleted that one and am trying with something else.

As for the title play only bit, I do intend to continue submitting those for old silent movies that no one knows what the story is about, and SO THERE!

Officially, title play only is allowed where we only have the title to go on, but not if there is more information available.

However, I have had title plays on such films rejected as TITLE PLAY ONLY, and another problem - at least my problem and apparently Salopian's too - has been using this label on rejections of reviews which are both title plays and legitimate reviews.

Hey! New MERP!

I'm getting 5-10 approvals a day with very few rejections. I love you! Don't listen to Whipper and keep up the good work!

Yes, we have new members and the odd left-field decline is the occaisional side-effect of this. Fortunately, MERPs learn and, more fortunately, we have this wonderful resubmission feature.

Thanks for your answer.

It seemed to me that someone doesn't quite understand what "TOO GENERIC" means, and a quick word with them would be helpful for everyone concerned, which is why I did not feel, and still do not feel, that just resubbing was the best approach, as they would go on making the same mistake until someone told them about it.

And these refusals were not simply left-field, they were out of the stadium, down to the turnpike, across state lines and down to Mexico.

Isn't there some sort of Merp 'boot-camp' we can send these newbies(I use that term loosely, considering I've only been here 14 months +/-) to in order to avoid such horrific situations? Nothing displeases me more than to see Whipper's reviews declined, as mine seem to be accepted at a decent rate.

I know this posting is neither helpful or relevant, but in the spirit of typing random musings(which I often do)... hopefully a stray Merp will take a glance at my 'Pending' pile...

I'm glad to see this thread. I was a little confused by a "too generic" rejection I received for the film "Men of Honor" which stars Cuba Gooding Jr. as a man who works his way into being the first black U.S. Navy deep sea diver. Not to give it away, although that hardly matters since it's locked in the system, but it referenced "Jerry Maguire" and I couldn't see how it could be generic.

First of all, thanks for adding on MERPs. I'm thrilled that I'm getting reviews accepted in the middle of the week instead of just over the weekend.

As for the resubmission feature, I wasn't using it for quite some time and opted to delete the original submission and try again with a slightly different twist instead. But that was back when I had lots and lots of submissions pending. Now that my pile has dwindled I'll go back to resubmitting until I get my pending pile up again.

Since PKMN is just below me on the list, I know when he gets approvals and he's been getting enough to keep him quiet. Although he did put up a fuss when I first passed him on the list.

(I'm working towards overtaking MelissaS next. BWAHAHAHA!)
