I thought it was great too, although perhaps the hype spoiled it a tiny bit. Some of the 1980s reminders hit me with a jolt - especially scented rubbers, which I had forgotten all about - although I am a bit younger than the characters (three at the beginning of the decade). The contrast with housebound children today is very striking, the responsibility for which does not lie primarily with their love of computer games but with this horrible, cloying parenting going on. I still cannot believe it but I read in all seriousness that the average age children are now allowed out on their own is fourteen. Fourteen!
