Indeed it will. The main examples are tidying up things like crumbs and litter (rather than, say, scrubbing surfaces), so I think his focus can definitely be described maintaining a tidy environment.

Top prize (to follow) for you; the runner-up is Ch_Ed; honourable mentions for everyone else.

I'm afraid the reviews may come as a bit of a disappointment after this!

O.K., new one.

A better word than paedophilic, predatory or slimy for the teacher in The History Boys. The first is not accurate since they are all eighteen, and the other two are I think more negative than is fair. I really want a single word for overly tactile; I don't think tactile alone will do.

How about "tacky"? It carries the sense of being sticky, it carries a mild sense of disapprobation, and in the right context, it carries a tactile sense of discomfort.

It does have several relevant meanings, but I think it just too strongly comes across as meaning unstylish.

What about 'touchy' ... since there are also some moments when he takes offense?

Thanks everyone. Touchy wins, since he is indeed also rather prickly and it alliterates with teacher. Will visit you later as well as lemmy, B.B.

"Touchy"? You needed us to wrack our brains for the most obvious word imaginable for "overly tactile"?

It wouldn't have done without the double meaning (which I hadn't thought about), as it's not that typical to use it in that way.

It's just that it's an overly tactile subject for me.
