1. It's a person.
2. But not living.
3. It's a man.
4. He has no connection with religion. If you want to ask if he has any connection with fields, well, that will be another question...
5. He was connected with the arts. You sure you don't want to ask whether he has any connection with fields? It's up to you...
6. No, he was not a sportsman, he was connected with the arts!
7. He has no connection with fields or meadows. But there is with films. What took you so long? This is a film review site, after all!
8. Yes, he's an actor.
9. Would I bother mentioning him if he hadn't won an Oscar? Yes, he won an Oscar.
10. Yes, he's from the USA.
11. That's what I like about Baffy, she asks really intelligent questions. He was a character actor.
12. That's what I like about Livie too! Yes, he won an Oscar for a supporting role.
13. You gals are homing in! Yes, before 1960.
14. Baffy, you have a problem. No, he did not have a famous son who was a film director.
15. No, he did not win 3 best supporting actor Oscars.
16. Nope, not Spencer Tracy. (He never won a supporting actor Oscar, only 2 for leading actor. So, as you wasted a question, I'm gonna help you with some free clues. Ready? His first name isn't Spencer, and his last name isn't Tracy. Only four questions to go!
17. No, the film for which he won his Oscar was not really concerned with holidays or religion. That was really two questions, but as Livie asked so nicely I'll only charge for one, this time!
18. No, the person he played was fictional.
19. No lisp.
You have only one question left. "Just one." - This is a big clue!
20. Yes, the film he won his Oscar for was also nominated for Best Picture.
Another film won though - possibly the biggest certainty in the history of the Academy - and he was in that one as well!
We are talking here of someone who would be very near the top of any intelligent shortlist for greatest movie supporting actor of all time.
Am I being helpful or what??
Kind old Whippa!
Yes, I always had complete faith in you Baffy! (provided I let you have a real give-away clue.)
Don't you think he was a great supporting actor? Him and Claude Rains are my two best ever supporting actors.
Oh, it's your turn again Baffy!

Now see.... I was going for the same guy!!! But I'd have asked if his famous film director son actually ''directed'' him in his Oscar winning role. Or I might have asked the question about steenkin' badges. But if for some odd reason, that's not who it is, I have the alternate question... which would be: Did he win 3 supporting actor Oscars? But, that was my 2nd choice. |

I agree he was a superb supporting actor and lifted the tone of every scene. Stagecoach, of course, was a far better picture than GWTW. It was Ford's magnificent if a tad uncomfortable version of a Guy de Maupassant story called Boule de Suif - Ball of Fat. It's a tale of tolerance, and probably one of Ford's most sensitive work. A big ask for the times - presenting wayward Claire Trevor in a sympathetic light, and even demanding an emotional connection to the screw-up alky doctor - Mitchell was terrific in the part, avoiding any of the cliches a lesser actor would have used. I'll always have a problem with Marion Wayne [I simply never believe him] - but even I have to admit he does a decent job in this one.
I'm guessing I'd have hated Ford in person, but there's no denying his brilliance as a director.
Now - I suppose you want another 20 Questions Question. Hmmm .... let's see ... oh, yeah, okay:
