I went in expecting very little, and I got just a little more than I expected.... Meaning, I didn't hate it.
The familiar music begins (Daht dah DAHHHH... DAH!) and the doors start sliding open, and you can't help but smile. Lots of little homages to the TV series that also coax a grin.
It's when the movie strays too far from the sitcom formula and into action-movie cliche world that it starts to lose its way. The tone and the script were very uneven throughout.
But at the very least it was good for a few laughs and a bit of nostalgia. Steve Carrell did NOT spit on Don Adams' grave, Alan Arkin as the Chief was delightfully crusty, and and Anne Hathaway's 99 was easily the best part of the film for me.
Catch it on cable or DVD rental if you're so inclined; it's at least worth the time it takes to watch it.

I liked it quite a bit, no complaints whatsoever.
I really like this Steve Carell guy; he has a very unique ability to mix his shtick with humanity and pathos. Very few can pull it off. |

Okay, so I have to admit that when I saw a clip of this on Jay Leno, I actually laughed. It did look to me from that short piece like Carrell wasn't doing an imitation of Don Adams, which really is a good thing, so perhaps it doesn't totally suck. I so much loved that TV show, though...
