| I couldn't agree more as far as these types of films are concerned. There are far worse things out there that could make kids believe that violence is okay, but a CGI panda isn't one of them! Nicely done! |

Nice! I wonder if these 'reviewers with a Christian agenda' unreservedly promote the new Chronicles of Narnia flick, which is aimed at a young audience and I imagine is quite a bit more violent than the black-belted Panda. (There were even babies in the audience when I saw it recently!)
And have any of them read their Bibles lately?

Sure they have, but the Narnia stories are New Testament allegories so of course they'd prefer that to a CGI panda learning a marshal art. |

| From studies I've seen (presented on T.V., so only informally), children certainly will copy violence they see on screen to one degree or another. However, this seems to be more in the form of playing, e.g. hitting a toy in the manner they are shown (because they know they cannot hurt it) or play-fighting with each other (with a lower level of force than shown). In the latter case, it's not that they are not capable of fully copying some of the acts -- a child is more than capable of pushing another child off a high wall (cf. pushing off a cliff that frequently happens in films), but it's quite rare for this to happen. In other words, children know there is a difference between real and pretend. On the other hand, it doesn't mean that it is always clear to them where the distinction falls, and not everyone has good judgment as to consequences, so there probably are some cases of children being more violent as a result of what they see. Other children who are very angry for one reason or another may also copy what they have seen, but I would think they would just be violent in different ways had they not been shown examples. |
