1. Why are multiple reviews by a single user for the same movie allowed?
2. Why are reviews for movies not yet released allowed?
Both of these points seem to defy the convention of "film review". Film reviewers don't write multiple reviews of the same movie unless, perhaps, they write for multiple publications. Additionally, there is a review of Harry Potter 7, Pt. 2 approved today. That movie isn't out until 2011.
I realize that the site is more akin to the "Four Word Film Summary" than "Review", but there should be a line drawn somewhere. No one can even be sure if certain plot elements will be contained within the final cut of movie that hasn't been released yet.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!
We use the word "review" quite slovenly here.
But why don't you just dig in? For examples of good reviews, you might start here. |

Welcome WAldenIV!
Wise ones are judged by the quality of their questions, and yours are spot on. As you continue to delve in among the nooks and crannies of the fwfr colony you may - MAY, I said - find some answers.
I've often pondered the same, and different anomalies. Just don't pay attention to Randall. And if you do want to see some excellent reviews, why not start
here!
Whatever - have fun!

Hello WAldenIV!
Don't listen to either of those two. The ONLY officially approved guide for newbies is HERE.
It's said that voting for as many of these reviews as possible will bring many years of good luck, pots of money and coachloads of supermodels. OK, you're sceptical, but hey, whatcha got to lose?
And stop asking so many questions!

Hi WAldenIV, all good points, but we are just here for fun. Enjoy the site.
Threw you a handful of votes.

The short answer to both of your questions is "because we can."
When I joined this group of addicted punners in January, I believed as you do, and even vowed to limit myself to one review per movie. What changed? Greed -- the desire to attain as many votes as possible. And, let's face it -- two or three well-turned reviews for the same film will garner more votes than one review. Besides, the reason the big-time movie reviewers only write one review per film is because they can say everything they want in that review. To say everything we want to say about a movie takes three or four or more four-word summaries. And, it's fun to come at the same film from two or three directions, to see how many different humorous (or insightful) reviews we can write for one film.
And, you're right -- they aren't always exactly reviews. Now that you've contributed ten reviews, you should have received your first bonus, in which our Lord and Master (Benj) gives some insight into the beginnings of the site and the review-vs-summary question. Perhaps he'll even contribute to this fourum with some insight. If I'm right, I believe Benj removes premature summaries if the facts are in question once the film is released.
In any case, WELCOME. I hope you'll be able to look past our little quirks and enjoy many years of reviewing.

Hey WAldenIV,
In answer to your first question; if people can come up with several reviews for one film that look at it from different directions (as Larry said), then why not? I think it actually adds to the challenge and the fun to try to write as many good reviews as you can (within reason obviously!).
As for your annoyance over R o k G 0 1 f's and my Harry Potter reviews *spoiler*, I've submitted mine this early (which, fair enough, is ridiculously early) simply because I thought of the review and didn't want to forget it or let somebody else think of it whilst waiting for it to come out. Also I know what you're saying about my plot assumption, but it is a pretty huge event and I'd be very surprised if it didn't feature at all in the movie. If it doesn't I'll remove my review. |

As a top violator of the one review per film law, I consider it my duty as per Civil Disobedience, wherein I have learned it is not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize.
Not to compare Sludge to Walden pond.
If you want to avoid being truly infuriated, don't look here.
Welcome to FWFR!

Why not? If multiple reviews weren't allowed then we wouldn't end up with pages like this fun page here. |

Welcome WaldenIV. I won't shamelessly plug for votes in my welcome (although I will point out that my reviews can be found by clicking my name and then "My reviews").
I think Larry gave the best answer of why we can submit more than one review per film, and I don't have much of anything to add to that. I did think that a film had to be in some stage of production per IMDB in order to be considered for our review purposes, so those in talks or in the early proposal stages are not considered. The security of reviews for those films certainly is a bit tenuous, should the review later prove inaccurate, but there are reviews for given films that are going to be appropriate regardless. Die Hard 4 comes to mind.
In any case, welcome, and please, feel free to join in our fourum merriment. We have bi-weekly Four Your Consideration vote fests, weekly contests in the games and contest section and some interesting discussion and debate elsewhere in here!!
P.S. I have visited your reviews page and left a few welcome gifts. |

Ahhhh, there was a time, not so long ago, when I held myself to the idealistic standards proposed by WAldenIV. Now, I don't even pretend; I'm as greedy and manipulative as all the other slobs(I throw that term around lovingly) in fourum, pimping ourselves out shamelessly for an occasional vote.
Votes are like freakin' crack around here, and the more reviews I put out there for the general public to see, same film or not, the better my chances of scoring my next 'rock'
Hey, has anybody seen my pipe?! |

Yes, the prospect of being invited to vote on 700+ reviews in 24 hours might have been a little too intense for a first post response. |
