Hi all,
For a while now I've been looking at options for moving fwfr to a different server in the hope of stopping some of these slowdowns we get, especially the 3AM problem that seems to especially plague the antipodian site members.
Now, I've set up a copy of the site elsewhere I was wondering if some folks could give it a shot and see how it compares. Basically, I'm after confirmation that, should I move the site, it'll make any kind of a difference. Anyway, if you get chance, please have a pop on...
http://www.fwxr.com
... have a bit of a click around and see how it goes. Ignore the fourum (I've not set that up yet) but the main site should be perfectly operational and it goes without saying any reviews submitted there will not be looked at
Let me know how it goes, benj. |

These issues may be because you just took a kind of snapshot of the site:
My number of reviews is different by one. My reviews are only shown as approved to 7th June. My F.Y.C. is out of date, perhaps from the same time. My accolades are similarly out of date. The logo is from Christmas. |

Yup- it's a restore of the site from some time ago so the data won't be bang up-to-date with what we have here.

I wanted to add something so you definitely knew you weren't on the live site. The Christmas logo was a quick way of doing this. |

Just tried to connect and got the "taking too long to respond" message.
Maybe by the time I get connected the Xmas logo could be apposite?!

Well, it seemed normal other than those sorts of things. However, I didn't want to risk testing making any changes to anything. |

The main thing is checking it doesn't seize up anywhere like the current server seems to have a habit of doing on occaision. |

I logged-in, toggled around with no trouble, no hang-ups, no slow-downs. But, wow, the snapshot of my page was an old one. |

I was a little late coming on tonight so the old 9:30-11:30 (local time) down time problem was not addressed. Will try to check it out tomorrow. |

Me too ... had a good ole play around, even created a test accolade BUT When I tried to access the FAQs I got: quote: The database could not be opened !! Check your config.asp file and set the strConnString so it points to the database. Also check if strDBType is set to the right databasetype.
Code : 80004005
Error Description : [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
But I'm guessing that FAQ may be via a different db access?
Great idea! Now - to be sure it's better, really better - I'd need to recreate site access at the times when it was especially slow, i.e. the middle of the UK night. Dunno if/when I can do that
Big thanks, benj!

Yep, the FAQs are in the fourum, which isn't configured yet. Most speed problems seem to be with the main site so that's what I'm trying to test at the moment.

Might I suggest you try this in the middle of the UK night? |

At 4 a.m. last night I tried the two sites. 'Connecting' to fwfr.com was very slow, i.e. would eventually have been abandoned like normal. In contrast, it immediately could not find fwxr.com. |

Dagnabbit! Okay, thanks for the feedback- I'll see if I can sort the fwxr problem. |

Cheers for that. I also managed to find a more specific error and I'm chasing up the hosting company about it. Hopefully they know what's going on. |
