Only � Jewish -- actually it was his Jewish father, I think, married a Catholic woman, so doesn't the Jewish line pass via the mother? I'm really so ignorant about this stuff considering my own ancestry

His mother converted to Christian Scientist when Newman was young, but he said he calls himself a Jew, "because it's more of a challenge."
My aunt is very upset by Newman's death. They were the same age and she has had a huge crush on him for years. |
