I know that the whole MERP system of FWFR is shrouded in mystery, but was wondering if someone could shed some light on the process of approving or declining reviews for me...
A review is declined and the MERP gives a comment.
I resubmit, with the MERP's comment in mind.
It's a different MERP second time round (let's suppose)......
....does that second MERP see the first MERP's comment?
(with a limited number of characters to state my case, there's little space for context. I'm hoping the new MERP does have access to the review's history of comments)
Anyone? Anyone?

I have asked this before but no answer. If it's a different MERP, then there often isn't space for the response to the rejection reason as well as the old info. If it's the same MERP, then it defeats the point of having different opinions. |

A couple of years ago, there was a glitch that allowed we reviewers to peer into what looked like a secret fourum maintained by the MERPs. I copied parts of a thread entitled "MERP Orientation," so I quote (and I hope I don't get in trouble for this):
quote: Each MERP is outfitted with a psychic signal modulator cap so that each can see the same things and actually think the same thoughts that other MERPs are thinking. In the early days of MERPing, this led to embarrassing moments when some MERPs forgot to take off their caps before going to the loo. MERPS learned much more about each other than sometimes they cared to learn. Some MERPs made requests that certain other MERPs leave their caps on at all times, which led to the issuance of several restraining orders, but I digress.
Since the MERPs are thus linked by a single psychic chain, they know all and see all when it comes to processing reviews. Undoubtedly this is why absolute uniformity exists with regard to approval and decline processing. Occasionally, MERPs will collectively approve or decline an anomaly; this is done to maintain the appearance of fallibility. Fellow MERP Salopian is then assigned the task of pointing out the anomaly in the regular fourum, just in case reviewers missed it.
Accordingly, please provide your accurate head size (in U.K. measuring units) and select from the several available colors. The Succulent Watermelon shade is on back-order.

Benj has said that the MERPs have a full history of each review. This was in the context of me asking whether MERPs could see how a resubmitted review originally read.
I assume that MERPs can also see MERP comments history, but that wasn't explicitly mentioned.
That's all I know.

And just as importantly, is there any way of finding out if Succulent Watermelon colour is back in stock? |

The reason I ask is because I've just had my review for 'Clerks' rejected.
The review: 'Smith's last decent movie.'
The MERP rejected it because I 'didn't specify which Smith I was referring to'.
Ummm ... let's take a guess here. Could it be Kevin Smith, who wrote, directed and starred in Clerks? Or could it be Grace or Virginia Smith, who each had very small parts in the film (one brief scene each I think)?
And does it matter one jot which of the 3 I was referring to, since it's only my opinion anyway (which is what a review is, and nothing more - the reviewer's opinion)?
Clearly, the MERP in question is either really pedantic or a bit of a smarty-pants ... or both.
Benj - just for our peace of mind ... can you confirm if the MERPs see the comment history of each review? Or do rejected and resubmitted reviews go back to the same MERP?

BD, I understand your frustration. Part of the problem is probably Kevin Smith: that is soooooo generic a sirname! I would suggest, to the MERPs, that they should try and limit their approvals to the films, and not to the "What Film" bubble.
I think your review should be approved (Salopian!). |

Does it work the other way? If I criticise a fairy, will a MERP die?

I really wish you'd stop posting from that thread MguyX. What can I say? It was a bad time for me. Things have changed. We all wear dooleyboppers now.
And yep- the history is visible to MERPs. It's possible my code isn't 100% accurate however |

I think the MERP was right to decline, but it didn't require a reason - which complicated the matter - it's just generic. The review could refer to Will Smith, Maggie Smith, make up master Dick Smith... yes, none of those people featured in Clerks (more's the pity) but the generic rule means your review shouldn't be easily applied to another film (unless it's for comic effect). |
