Hmmm ... my review for 'Our Daily Bread' was accepted recently.

Yay!

Now today it's top of my 'declined' list. No explanation or reason.

Boo!

The review is 'Passion of the Crust'.

Anybody got any ideas why this would happen? A review gets accepted, then shortly after it gets removed to rejected.

My other review for the same film - 'Passion of the slice' was rejected right way, with no explanation.

Which movie was it for? I see a few listed including a silent film from 1915. That would make a difference, you know, since title play only isn't usually allowed unless there's no plot for available for the movie you're reviewing.

It's from the 1934 film.

People hit by the depression band together to make a farming community which proves to be their salvation. They create a bread-based utopia.

So ... they put all of their PASSION into making bread. Which has a CRUST (and can be SLICEd).

I think both reviews are valid:

'Passion of the crust.' 'Passion of the slice.'

... unless it's too generic because other films feature people who are passionate about bread.

In this new modern FWFR where we are often given detailed explanations of why the reviews aren't good enough, it can be frustrating to see your review rejected with no explanation at all.

You get the feeling the MERP has dismissed it on a whim and can't be bothered to say why.

In this case, I'm doubly frustrated, since the review was accepted and THEN declined!!

Well, it's a direct copy of a great review (Noncentz, American Pie)and whilst that doesn't directly answer your question as to why it came and went, I think it's a good enough reason to wave it goodbye.

It is also the top review for Love Bakery.

Ok - I'll accept that. I didn't know it had been used before.

But how about 'Passion of the slice'. Has that been used too?

hang on a second ...

If 'Passion of the crust' has already been accepted for TWO different movies, why not a third???

In general, it's bad enough if a review exists a second time. That's no basis for adding it again. There is no official rule against any number of duplicates for different films, but no one should want to have them.

But... none of that is relevant here. The first two are about a fairly similar type of passion (sexual/romantic), whereas yours is in the sense of enthusiasm. I therefore think it's valid to have yours as well.

Once a review is approved I thought that only Benj had the right to decline it, as such, you may be better asking him in a PM about this rather than starting another thread discussing such matters.

This is only my humble opinion and I am honestly not looking for an argument or confrontation, but if you approach Benj he may well be able to explain, whereas he might not be willing to enter a public debate.

Sorry if my tone causes offence.

Then maybe I'll resubmit both.

By the way - my 'passion of the crust' wasn't a deliberate ripoff. I genuinely thought of it myself ... although now I'm wondering if I had already seen it here on FWFR and had it tucked away in some corner of my mind ... subliminal, you know?

Happens all the time. It's called 'deja review'. The 'crumbs' of consolation are when you see that's it's already in top spot, confirming your own genius.

As for your alternative review, I'd make it 'Passion of the sliced'. Rhymes better with Christ.

Josh is right that only Benj can reject approved reviews -- at least in terms of anything I have read. However, small aspects of the approval/decline process have changed before without us being told at the time, so it's possible that that is the case with this, especially as Benj has been working on stuff off the main site lately and so he has been spending much less time here in which he could have noticed a review he objected to.

I agree about sliced -- it would also make bread more likely to spring to mind.
