A few week's back Salopian decided to change the name of "Sean's FYCTH" to simply "For Your Consideration Treasure Hunt".
I got the impression that this was a unilateral action by him taken without consulting anyone else, but I could be wrong about that. I believe at the time he offered a justification that the attachment of "Sean" to the name was not originally the case.
As things stand we have some threads - seemingly only those posted by Salopian - which omit SEAN, and others which include SEAN. This is messy and makes it harder to search for threads. In addition I get the impression that some fwiffers are a little peeved that Sean's name is being omitted.
So, I suggest give our opinions and then, if there is a consensus one way or the other, we stick with that name. I'm sure everyone will respect this and we'll have a consistently named thread.
(My own personal preference is for "Sean" to be included in the thread name.)
Whatcha think guys?

This is in no way meant to be inflammatory or argumentative, I am only expressing my own opinion, personally I feel that as Sean was the greater of the game and as a mark or respect to him amongst other reasons I believe we should keep the title as it has been for as long as I can remember.
That is containing Sean. If Sean visits us and expresses an opinion I will then go with that, I know that this may not suit everybody and we all have the right to our own opinion.
Keep on smiling think good thoughts

Don't care either way, but I kinda like the Sean thing. Makes it more personal. |

It was Sean's idea. In showbiz, any continuing series has a "Created by" credit. Sean deserves one too. |

If Sean came up with somthing and chose to put his name on it, I think we should respect that and keep his name there. Just my forepenneth. |

He didn't. Other people randomly started adding it later.
Despite napper's tiresome attempt to misrepresent me yet again, I did not start anything a few weeks ago. I have always used the original title. It's other people who have changed it, not that I have ever objected to that. I explained all this when bife asked a few weeks ago, only for demonic to harangue me for no reason.
There is no need for any consensus on the matter. That said, for the sake of new members, it's better to write the name in full regardless of whether the name is at the front. |

Nevertheless, it has become a tradition, one that I see as far back as the earliest available topic (#178 in 2006) in the archives below. It seems arbitrary and a bit of an insult to me to omit the tradition. |

Looking back over the FYC threads we have access to a couple of things become apparent; the usage of Sean's name in the title did occur later, as Salopian suggests, however it happened via a natural progression and by the beginning of 2007 was largely the standardised form with the occassional change - that's two whole years and fifty pages of threads where it has been fairly well established. Lots of us have started the FYC rounds over those two years and most of us have chosen to name it that way. Personally I think it personalises the thread in a good way, and make it seem less "official" and more fun. As for new members they will more than likely click on the link to see what it is regardless of what the thread is called - the rules then make it pretty clear what it's all about. I say "Sean".
And I don't think I harangued you for no reason Sal, it felt like a good reason to me. |

I didn't put my name on it. Others did.
My two cents worth:-
Penguins don't have particularly large egos, so I don't mind in the least whether "Sean" appears in the thread name or not. Still, as has been pointed out, the presence of a name makes it less formal and lets newbies know that there's nothing 'official' about it (I'd never thought of it that way but it makes sense).
But, the main thing is to be consistent for ease of finding the threads (current or old). For the last few years I've called the threads "FYCTH #483" (I could never bring myself to insert my name ) and most have called them "Sean's FYCTH #483" or something very similar. There's also a precedent for sensible and consistent naming of regular threads (MIHAI, SA:MOU etc).
Still, if anyone has a problem with that, we could always name it after someone else. How about "Salopian's FYCTH #483"? |

How about "FYCTH, featuring 50 Cent, Toby Keith, and A. R. Rahman"?

Ladies and gentlemen is it time to accept that the way forward is
Sean's FYCTH #483
yes I know it'll get confusing if we don't change the number another idea is that each round we add one to the number so the next round after the example would be 484. Crazy I know but it's an idea
