I dunno. I'm not sure he really is, at least not in terms of the reviews of his that people tend to highlight. What I mean by that is his reviews have quite a fat tail in terms of quality, so it's his ones with 5-10 votes that tend to be underappreciated. I think there are three main 'levels' of votes here -- one is the site's top 100 reviews, one is regular Fourumites' top few hundred reviews and one is all the rest. The top 100 reviews is obviously such a small proportion that I tend to compare votes on a review to the middle category, and a lot of noncentz's lower reviews are undervoted on that scale. His top reviews, in contrast, have been highlighted again and again and thus are not undervalued, especially those in the top 100. In terms of pure wordsmithery, you are definitely the better reviewer, no question about it. Corduroy Pillow is probably better than him too. What helped noncentz alongside wordplay was an extremely good knowledge of film, and this is what accounts for his fat tail. I often see a review of his that makes a reference that I can then guess or investigate. In many cases, I think I might well have thought of the review myself had I that knowledge at hand, but I don't. I'll still check out his link that you magnanimously posted, though. |

Very kind of you, Salopian. No, seriously.
However, in a hundred years I could never match Noncentz's best such as "E.T. Foe Gnome" or "Edgar eyes burros." Those are sublime. I aim for his level of punnery, and sometime reach the level of his good, but not his best. |
