Randall - I was really underwhelmed by Watchmen too. I love the book, but this felt flat. I was impressed by the attention to detail in some scenes, but ...blaahhhh. Moore was right - it works as a comic. Doesn't work as a movie.
And Demonic .... I agree totally. This has to be the worst soundtrack to any movie EVER. It's like the director has decided to crowbar 10 or so of his favourite songs in - whether they suit the film or not. Every single time another misplaced song piped up I'd find myself thinking "What the fuck? You've got to be JOKING!"
I soooooo wanted this film to be awesome. But once again Hollywood manages to take a surefire winner and fuck it up.
One more thing: anybody who is obsessing over realistic physics on Mars evidently hasn't noticed the giant guy with blue skin who can teleport there. Nobody promised you realism; that's an unfair beef.
I don't buy into that. Sci-fi should always make sense within its own reality. Nothing in the film indicates that it is a different Mars to the actual Mars.
I brought the DVD the other night , watched it and....I think I need to watch it again. I have vague knowledge of the Graphic Novel so I more or less followed the plot. I think someone going in cold would have struggled.
I might just wait for that second viewing to collate my thoughts!
