Knowing presents a a challenging if well-rehearsed premise pitting determinism against free will. This time it's not an idle discussion but directly relevant to life as we know it.

Sadly, -- [and despite some exceptionally controlled direction, even when frantic is the only option --] the philosophy keeps popping up like a star doing a cameo, but adding not much to the story.

The axis of the film shifts from a potentially powerful human story to a sloippy sci-fi excuse for some set pieces.

In that regard the film is pretentious and doesn't allow the actors to do more than look puzzled, anxious, or angry.

While you're watching you can suspend all disbelief [an appropriate word, trust me] ... but when it's all over, it's just silly.

So... why isn't Elijah Wood in it? If those are the only things they do in the film, this might have won him an Oscar!

I was so disappointed in this one, since I'm a great admirer of Alex Proyas's work, especially DARK CITY, and since the first hour showed such promise. Then it turned into the potboiler I had suspected all long. A real shame.

Yes, this one had promise, and then kinda circled the drain.

Moi aussi! When i saw Proyas was in charge i was expecting something a lot better than this melange of disaster movie and sci fi nonsense.

I don't know, I actually kind of grooved to this one, despite the fucking nonsense terrible ending. That plane crash scene? That's some excellent fucking filmmaking, my friends. It had a decent buildup and that'll forgive a lot.

I completely missed the fucking filmmaking! Where's Bertolucci when you need him?
