"This film is not about Chan. It is about the actor who played him, who was Swedish, not eastern, Not French either!"

This response from the always busy Merpers broke me laughing.
Don't ask what the review was. I come up with the most banal stuff.

Did you get any funny responses?

Ooh! A challenge! Can I come up with the film and the review based on the rejection? And this time, nothing to offend Salopian! Yeah!

Ok, the film is "Charlie Chan Is Missing: The Last Days of Warner Oland".

The review: "Plus sa Chan..."?

A "guess from my decline" game - sure why not.

And also you're the el fantastico! :bowing smiley] You've guessed the movie, and almost, almost the review - think a bit more nonsensical.

A recent decline that cracked me up

World ends tomorrow. Not!

"Plus it's generic, plus that's not even a joke... guess we have to decline!"

25 votes for the first person who guesses the film

Well, we all have to decline, sooner or later, don't we?

Don't know, that's the entire rejection note.

There must have been a listed reason then, like the MERP didn't understand or you were only riffing on the title, or it was too generic.

EDIT: Nope, couldn't have been "too generic," because that's a "plus." There must have been a third reason.

I' posted this one before but it remains my favorite for "Snow Falling on Cedars", which was directed by Scott HIcks I submitted: "Hicks: Shiver Me Timbers" and the full reason was "Could you please resubmit a review that is more specific to this film and less about your pirate pun. Thank you."

I admit it was a title play only (a clever one frankly) but I really enjoyed that rejection so I keep it in my reject pile as a warning on title plays.

I don't know about that one, but there does seem to be a pattern whereby MERPs reject reviews whose puns they happen to dislike even though the literal senses of the reviews are fine.

I've just had two rejections which are funny because they are so ridiculous.

"Papal fallability" for Angels & Demons as too generic! (I had pointed out that fallability is not a real word.)

"Gay boyfriend dissatisfies Dot" for The Dot and the Line as being factually inaccurate! (I had pointed out that the dot likes the squiggle for being gay (used in the film in the carefree sense) but that she then becomes dissatisfied with him.)
