The Informant!
i liked it a lot, but it's not really the film that it looks like they've been promoting. there are funny parts but it's definitely not a comedy, and gets more serious as it goes. |

I liked it, too.
Damon is really excellent as the baby-faced manipulative corporate chemist who became an FBI mole in a global price-fixing scam. I suspect this will do better outside the States, more tolerant of mixtures of comedy and seriousness. Ditto the Coen Bros Serious Man.
Film's based on true case. Dunno if it's because the family was in any way involved with the film, but the guy's mental condition isn't really dealt with. I know the film's narrative is tilted toward him, but it's a gap.

Yes, very enjoyable.
Damon is good value as the podgy nerd with the labyrinthine mind. Funniest parts of the movie were his swirling internal monologues, I thought.
I avoided reviews & knew nothing about the real story beforehand, which meant that I was perplexed by events for the first 1/2 hour or so. I assume this opacity is intentional on Soderberghs part: it places viewers in a similar position to the FBI agents. Gradually things become clearer. (But, then again, my initial confusion was compounded by being unable to figure out for quite a while in what decade the movie is set. Soderbergh goes for a strange 70s retro look for no reason that was clear to me.)
