OK it ain't perfect. But if you're looking for cinema instead of the cheesy made-4-tv crap that normally pollutes the big screen, if you're looking for a film made to tickle the 4-year-old that lives inside us all [yes, even you!], if you're looking for something to engage your mind and eyes and, sometimes even your hearts [though I could have done with more of those moments] ... trust Dr Gilliam.
Perhaps I'll expound more anon, but just returned from this one and I love it, love it, love it. And, frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn if you don't

This is good news. I certainly hope it gets to Israel as I was intrigued by the idea even before Ledger died.

I really wanted to love this, but unfortunately it didn't stoke up my imaginarium very much, and it feels like a poor conclusion to poor Heath Ledger's film career given the heights he was reaching in recent years - this was a bit of miscasting pure and simple; two minutes of Depp was enough to show how distracted Heath seemed to be. Gilliam's been disappointing me for a long time now, so no great shakes there. Hooray for Plummer and Tom Waits, and huzzah for some off the wall imagery, but boo and double boo for Gilliam's total lack of understanding of plot structure, understandable screenwriting or focus. A shame. |
