This is very sad for me to hear. Can't do this in 4 words, sorry.
Yes, folks, another story under the heading ... she can't know everyone, can she?!
Once upon a time when I was still in university but determined to become an actress ... I'd been cast as Emilia in a production of Othello. The director was Vera Mowry Roberts, first wife of Pernell. At the dress rehearsal Vera asked her former husband to cast his professional eye over the production, after which he gave notes.
He went around each person, summing up what he thought they should work on before the opening. But he said nothing to me, so I approached him to ask what I could do better. And he told me if everyone played their part as perfectly as I had, he'd have a very easy life.
Coming from such a big star as he was at the time, it was just the encouragement I needed to follow my dream.
Whatever its faults, show biz is chock-fulla generous people. Pernell was one of them. A real gent.
