I wrote a review and submitted it but decided to delete it before it was approved/declined. Accidentally, I hit "disown", which I've never selected before. Imagine my surprise when I saw the review, word for word, hyphen and all, accepted under someone else's name.

So tell me - what does disowning a review mean and where do disowned reviews go? And why does someone typically disown a review?

Thanks

See the current thread under FWFR Related > Reviews > Alan Smithee. That pretty much covers it.

Email me the review and I'll happily delete it for you.

Allan Smithee is the name a director gives to his film when it has been mangled so badly by a studio. The director wantsnothing to do with it so a fake name appears.

I think FWFR's Allan Smithee option is quite clever.

Does everybody delete reviews?

Or at least everybody who reads this.

It depends on the review - I have disowned but I also delete. When it's basically rubbish and no one votes on it I delete, when it's not a bad pun but still not very popular, I disown - good enough to stay on the site, but not good enough to stay in my set.

My thinking is that if a review isn't good enough for me then by definition it isn't good enough for the site. If it were of value for the site it would be of value for me.

If the review is good enough to be passed by the MERPS has it not already earned it's place on the site?

Um, have you seen some of the reviews on this site?! Reviews don't have to be good to pass the MERPs; they just (in theory) have to be reasonable.
