There was usually sound with most silent films, sometimes just someone following along with a piano. The more important the film, the more elaborate the accompaniment--full orchestra, FX, etc.
It just wasn't by way of a sound track on the film itself.
The point is that the audience's experience of most 'silent' films was not one of silence. |

Quite right, lemmy, but my suggestion just says they're films without words, not that they're totally silent.

Yukon said the films in this chapter are from before 1924 so they're "old, silent and B&W". I thought he meant they are all old, silent AND B&W?

Ah, but Silent Movies often DID have words--displayed on placards, nicely calligraphed, explanatory, between scenes. |
