"1500+ reviews. 1 joke."

Now that publication of the book is imminent, how about getting some free publicity?
When I created a Sporcle quiz for Historical Tweets - The Book, it got over 85,000 plays with a link in game and the comments to the booksite.
The authors contacted Sporcle and said they got more directed hits from Sporcle than two article in the Huffington Post! In fact they were so delighted they asked for a sequel.
The Original The Sequel
I've also previous used FWFR for quizzes, including my very first published Sporcle quiz which has now been played over 80,000 times.
So, with Benj's okay already given, I'd like to write a new quiz in association with the book, including linking to the Amazon page for the book.
The theme will be FILMS OF THE 2000s and I want your suggestions for reviews that would make great clues.
As was always Benj's intention, a great review should suggest but not give away the films, should already be published and have gotten several votes.
I'd like to add that the review cannot contain any family un-friendly words, that the film should be fairly well known, and that no "inside jokes" be included. Ideally, there should be an "a-ha!" moment wheh you figure out what the film review is describing.
And remember that for this quiz, the films must have been released between 2000 and 2009.
My suggestion would be that you pick up to ten suggestions each, five of your own and five by other FWFRers, I'll narrow it down and get Benj's advice as to which 40 to 60 make it to the quiz.
One other note to Benj: Do you have a preferable link for the book? I know with Amazon there's a way that you can get a percentage of sales based purchases to a specific link, and you should have an account set up like that, if you don't already.

To help narrow your considerations, I'm including a list of candidate films below. These are basically the big money makers of the decade with animated films, sequels and remakes removed. (Except Dark Knight, which I think can stand on its own.)
It would probably help if you limited your selections to these films, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Sounds great. Yep, the last Sporkle quiz more than doubled the number of visitors to fwfr for a good few days so this would make a great bit of publicity and I'd love everyone to get their reviews included in this.
As for the book link, until I've finished the book's website proper I'd suggest using the Amazon link from the top of the page in the main site- that's tied into my Amazon assocs account. |

The five of mine I'd like you to consider would be:
Ocean's Eleven (2001) Pitt-y, Clooney's no Sinatra. Walk The Line (2005) June's Cash laundering succeeds. Other Boleyn Girl, The (2008) Bedded unwedded; wedded, beheaded! Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone (2001) Harry gets Rowling's stone. Cold Mountain (2003) Goodbye? Ruby Thewes, stay!
I'll be back later with five from other reviewers.
And how about these five:
Pianist, The (2002) Schindler's Lizst. noncentz Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, The (2003) Three. Ring. Serkis. - Rockgolf Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004) An Affair To Forget. - Montgomery 50 First Dates (2004) Drew a blank. - Corduroy Pillow Da Vinci Code, The (2006) Hanks: You've Got Grail. - Demonic

I'll do something different - will suggest five films, where I've reviews in good standing and would also provide another review for the same film. Please make your choice as it is tough for me to be too objective in this regard.
Erin Brockovich - Erin, good at exposing; Gritty Woman The Scorpion King - Not so Rock-King; Rock like an Egyptian Slumdog Millionaire - Athos. Porthos. Arthouse. Pathos; Beggar can be chooser Spider-Man 3 - Sand and Dunst; Parker gets darker. and one of Invictus - Mandela is Freeman; Thinking outside the Boks or Goodbye Bafana - Going Bananas over Bafana; Free radical. |

Departed: "Mole ferrets rat." ("Ratt Damon", "Wahlberg plays 'Whack-A-Mole'.")
300: Suggest GHCool's "Hunchbackstabbing" or Rockgolf's "I'd rate it CCC".
The Terminal: "Tucci caches Czech", "Tom Delayed", "Tom Waits", "Foreign Gump", or "Diary of Banned Hanks".
Apocalypto: "Mayans head downstairs" (good one, Benj!)
XXX: of course, "Why? Why? Why?"
Walk the Line: "Phoenix rises from Cashes"; "Cash, withdrawal"; "June accepts Cash."; "June's Cash laundering succeeds."; "Joaq' the line."

So I thought about the Sporcle version of the book, and thought, why give too much of the book away?
Instead, I've selected a number of reviews and films already previewed in the Amazon "Look inside" feature with the advantage that it also gives me a theme of "Action" movies. (And BTW, did the book misspell Inglourious Basterds?)
I've taken two clues from each film in that section that I think make the best gameplay and point them at the same film. I've linked to Amazon using the "reference" code in fourwordbook.com link. (That page itself is too media-oriented, so I think trying to make a direct sale works best.)
Here's the clues I used:
About Last Knight. Bearded Jones's Diary. 1989
An unbalanced Ledger. Knight 'n shining harmer. 2008
Aussie and chariot. Bird fight: Crowe, Phoenix. 2000
Bacon in tin can. Ground control, Major Tom. 1995
Bad spellers kill Nazis. Shosanaa trigger Goebbel warming. 2009
Bill. Quentin. All gore. Bridesmad. 2003
Copper is metal. Pig iron. 1987
Faster than speeding Bullock. Boom in public transportation. 1994
Feddies vs. Jason. Good Will Hunted. 2002
Finding Neo. Prophet in own LAN. 1999
Four Webbing and Funeral. Teenager emits sticky substance. 2002
French teen starts smoking. English enjoy French cooking. 1999
Hammond, eggs. Site for 'saur rise. 1993
Indy and a Jones. Killer is hand solo. 1993
Jones of Ark. Ford. Explorer. 1981
Manhattan on the rocks. Jake Chill-enhaal. 2004
Military lowers height requirement. Goose should have ducked. 1986
Multi-pythons, flying circuits. Hijackers unarmed. (Unlegged too.) 2006
No Day After Tomorrow. Cusack: John of Ark. 2009
Papa's a Rolling Stone. Johnny Depp catches crabs. 2007
Peter's temporary arachnile dysfunction. Doc Ock rocks docks. 2004
Pits Pitt against Pitt. Meat Loaf tenderized. 1999
Punk receives counting lesson. Clint asks loaded question. 1971
Rear penetration surprises Greeks. Hades dining reservations announced. 2006
Royale without Cleese. Blond, James Bond 2006
Ryan, sea quest. From Russia with Sub. 1990
Sexy singer uses protection. Costner scores then shoots. 1992
Spacey planned a head. Cop gets severance package. 1995
Steel from the rich. Downey's surpringly well cast. 2008
The Immaculate Deception. Mary marry? Quite contrary. 2006
Walker becomes driver. Diesel vehicle lacks performance. 2001

Not bad at all. I only missed one - I haven't seen Inception yet, nor do I know anything about it, and the rules at first said through 2009, and Inception is a 2010 film, so I was stumped! |
