TA:MOU = Themed Anniversary: Moving On Up

DA EVEN NEWER ROOLZ

Each Tuesday a theme will be decided based on the Anniversary of some significant event. All you have to do is trawl your reviews for any that relate to that event and post them here with a link.

You can post as many as you wish, so long as either the film or your review clearly relates to the theme. You can only post during the week of the current TA:MOU.

You don't have to say you voted unless you really want to - but you are expected to visit all the links posted. As a courtesy to the majority of fwfrs, you may only post a link that uses the http://www.fwfr.com domain name.

Each TA:MOU # will be removed when a new one takes its place. This is to deter re-visiting of expired threads.

Yours truly
Da Management

ON THIS DAY
In 2003 Cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko exhanged wedding vows with Ekaterina Dmitrieva. She was in Texas; he was 240 miles above New Zealand, making him the first person to marry in space.

There are no similar cine-moments, believe me I've looked. So, extrapolating from this happy occasion, your TA:MOU challenge is to post fwfrs for films that celebrate friendships between humans and aliens.

You may now kiss the ... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhh!!

Surely the only time in history that anyone's ever been thanked for reminding someone of Howard the Duck?

Actually, I'm a MASSIVE fan of the comic book, which I think came out in the mid-1980s. I used to have the complete set, but some may have escaped back to outer space along the way.

I mean what's not to like ... a cigar-chomping alien water fowl in a relationship with an all-too-human artists model called Beverly Switzer, as together they face threats and evils such as a vampire cow, complete with sinister cape ... Truman Capoultry ... and wot about that inspired campaign of menacing vapid smilies, a wonderful spoof on real-life former beauty queen Anita Bryant, whose wholesome advertisements for orange juice tried to make palatable her virulent homophobia.

It's true that HtD creator, the genius that was Steve Gerber, had a break-down, but he even shared that with us. Imagine a comic book issue with NO art work, just some fascinating philosophy, if a bit skewed.

So, of course I was looking forward to the film. HAH! Typical Hollywood. It bore NO relation to the wit, charm and underlying social anger of the comix. It should have been plucked, roasted and served with Bing Crosby Cherry sauce, which might have made it at least seem tasty.

No wonder I gave it this review!
