Here in San Diego, there's a freebie tabloid called the San Diego Reader, with movie and concert listings, a few local-interest articles, and sudoku and crossword puzzles. Anyway, in the January 20, 2011 issue, the theme of the crossword was FWFR, much to my surprise and delight.

Two of the clues were what the first and second letters of FWFR stand for (they told you the last two were "film review"). Four other clues were "offering on fwfr.com for (year)'s (title of movie)".

They also have a website at (at www.sandiegoreader.com) but it looks like the crossword itself is in the print issue only. (If it is on the websitre, I couldn't find it, anyway.)

I'd also love to see a scan. I used to write and edit crosswords for a living (although British and American ones are rather different). If a scan isn't possible, is it small enough to type out the clues? You could do the grid as Xs for black squares and Os for white, or something like that.

I can try to scan the clues. The grid might be a bit anticlimatic at this point since I have already filled it in. But something like the X & O thing is feasible. It's a pretty typical sized crossword like 17x17 or so (I don't have it in front of me now). Typing out the clues is a possibility, but kinda tedious. I'll see what I can do in the next week or two.

And yes, it has been a while since my last review. I will let you guess how long it's been since I've actually watched a movie.

I feel it is my patriotic duty to perpetuate ugly Americanism wherever possible. Even when it's not exactly ugly Americanism.

It could hardly be called "woes". I've just spent my leisure time doing other things instead of watching movies. (For example, crosswords. ) I hadn't even realized how long it had been until you mentioned it; I guess I just got out of the movie watching habit and for whatever reason haven't picked it back up since.

Anyway, I'm glad all of you are enjoying the crossword.

Finally finished it off. Nice one. Took longer than I thought given the upper left corner.

Thanks Herky

Hey all, if you haven't gotten to this, I have posted a printable version based on Herky's post above in Google docs:

On the linked page, click File --> Download as --> PDF... --> change Landscape to Portrait and uncheck "repeat row headers".

You'll still need Herky's clues list image.

I am pretty sure I copied correctly but let me know if I missed anything. I haven't done the puzzle yet.

Cheers.
