Thor
As a longtime comic fan, I was skeptical about this one, but it was great the 2nd best film ever based on a Marvel property, after Spider-Man 2. There were a few things I thought should have been different fatter Volstagg, the Rainbow Bridge more rainbow-looking, an explanation of Odinsleep but I loved way more than disliked.
The acting was great all around, the look of Asgard was perfect, the Destroyer was excellent, Loki was diabolically conflicted, plenty of Easter eggs for old comic fans.
And I finally know what's in Marsellus Wallace's briefcase.

Yeah, didn't expect too much - but it really worked. I was skeptical to begin with, not least because they were bringing basically a rather silly hero (sorry) to the modern era, but also because it looked like an effects fest over actual content. Minor gripes aside about the thinness of the supporting cast characterisation, I thought it suitably epic and quite touching as well. Hemsworth is brilliant - pulling off a very difficult role with ease. He's suitably massive and charismatic for you to think he is actually a god. No really. I think he must be. And the baddies were pretty great... the big blue ice dudes were very cool indeed and the Destroyer was definitely the best part. Very satisfying stuff. I'm slightly more interested in the Avengers movie now. Job done.

"I like to watch."

I thought there was about a half hour of tremendous stuff in there when Thor first got to New Mexico. Very funny, and funny on purpose. Otherwise, for me it was a typical Marvel slugfest -- visual effects are indeed amazing by now [I loved the "bridges"], but not enough for real eye-popping as in AVATAR. The most amazing thing was that Kenneth Branagh liked the character enough to direct.

damalc, funny on Marsellus's briefcase!
