Well, at least temporarily. The latest version starring Armie Hammer under the mask and Johnny Depp as Tonto, has been abandoned due to budget clashes.
How weird is that? DISNEY stops production on a film starring its bankable star just before it starts filming. Does that mean that Disney has lost faith in Johnny Depp? I doubt it, though. The newest Pirates had great box office. It's topped the billion dollar mark since May, so I dunno.
That's crazy. I was just in New Mexico and the ENTIRE film community there was prepping for this $250 million film. A lot of people were going to get a lot of work from that show.
One possible reason for shutting it down is that New Mexico's new governor is taking away a lot of the tax incentives for filmmakers. Everywhere I went, the locals complained about the new governor's tough stance on Hollywood, but I couldn't be happier! More jobs for me and my friends in Los Angeles!
