DA ROOLZ
1. Look at the top-rank of your SECOND PAGE. Pick ONE film you think deserves to be on your first page - as sorted by votes received.

2. Isolate that film* and present the link in this thread WITH ...

3. AN EXPLANATION OF WHY YOU LIKE IT.

Who knows, your wish may come true

* It's been covered before how to do this, but here's a step-by-step recap:
1. Go to the page featuring everyone's reviews of your chosen film.
EITHER
2. From the drop-down display options choose My Reviews Only.

OR
2. Select Reviewer Name for the page display.
3. Find your own review and count which number it is on the page.
4. Up at the top url display you'll see something like this:
http://www.fwfr.com/display.asp?sort=2&dir=2&id=1698&Mode=&Rows=1&Start=11
5. See where it says Start=11 ... change that numeral to whatever you counted in step 3, and press go.
6. Your new page should now start with your chosen review.
7. NOW, to eliminate all the other reviews still showing, go up to the url display again and see where it says Rows=100.
8. Change that to Rows=1

3. Your new page should now have only your chosen review displayed. Copy that url and use it as your link for this thread.

HAVE FUN EVERYONE!!

Would you like a version in which each week addresses a page of your choice? In other words, Da Roolz are basically the same, but you get to choose your relevant page.

The TWO ELEMENTS that would carry over would be that whichever review you choose that week would automatically move up a page if it received even one vote. And that you need to explain WHY you like it, WHY you think it's funny, and anything you might want to say about a film which some other people may not be familiar with.

If you all vote yes, I'll replace this version with the new version on Monday. If less than four of you votes, I'll leave it as is.

Fair enough?

Actually, I think it is a good idea.

Hopefully, this links to the correct page

Alright, being relatively new to fwfr, the second page of my 'voted reviews' is littered with films having only received 1 or 2 votes. Any votes whatsoever would push this to my front page, but that's really just an afterthought.

The reason I submitted the review for 'Platoon' is simple: It's not the most clever take on the whole Charlie versus 'Charlie' angle, but it took quite a long time to get a review pushed through. It was one of the first I'd written... as a newbie to the sight seeking out the films I either personally enjoyed or those that happened to pop into mind. It kept showing up in my rejection pile, while hundreds of others passed it by.

So, that's that

To tell the truth, I'm more interested in explaining why I like a review (especially if I feel it's underrated) than in having it move from one page to the next.

I think that the phrase "moving on up" could apply to any review that receives more votes than it had - it is moving up in the rankings by review votes.

However, if moving from one page to the next is an necessary aspect of this game, then I think that it could be from any page (as you said).

Well, as I've said Baffy, its extremely unlikely that I will have a review on top of my 2nd page which needs explaining, not least because it will already have 22 or 23 votes so its likely to be fairly readily understandable without an explanation, dontcha think?

So for that reason I don't feel I can take part under current "roolz".

If you want to amend them to something more flexible which will allow me to select a review which is actually worth explaining rather than insulting the intelligence of my fellow fwiffers by spelling out the obvious - then I'd be pleased to participate.

Always happy to be of service!

PS I've also found a few I hadn't seen before.

I think it's a great pun. The only problem is I thought of it about six months after the movie left the movie theatres, so I missed out on some votes from the big wave of people checking out the reviews on the FWFR site. It already has 20 votes but I think it deserves more.

That should be declined as over 4 words!

Voted to here on all the ones I haven't already done so.

I wonder how they came up with that spelling. I suppose Godzilla is meant to be a transliteration of the Japanese Gojira, though technically it's not a very good one.

In Japanese, Gojira is a portmanteau combining the words for gorilla and whale. Goriwhale just doesn't have the same overtone of menace in English.

Nightmare before Christmas.

The Griswolds of course make a mess of things, but I also like this one because it calls to mind all those feel-good, made-for-television family Christmas specials that are often titled "A ----- Christmas." The movie makes a mess of that concept, too.

It was right around the time of 'Boys Don't Cry' and in this film Babs was pretending to be a boy so I wrote this review.

Thanks. I fixed the link, but here it is again.

I think StaLean did the same thing because I'm getting the wrong review.

Yukon you might re-do the link. You had sorted by votes, so you've created a moving target!

I'd voted for it, as well as the one that popped up on the link.

Moby Dick

When I think of a review, I try to approach it from many different angles. This review was no different. I thought of Captain Ahab as "The Terminator." The whale is a Sperm whale, and in the process of trying to terminate the whale, Captain Ahab is himself destroyed, hence my review. Maybe if I had added "The" in front of the review it would have been more conspicuous.
