A few week's back Salopian decided to change the name of "Sean's FYCTH" to simply "For Your Consideration Treasure Hunt".

I got the impression that this was a unilateral action by him taken without consulting anyone else, but I could be wrong about that. I believe at the time he offered a justification that the attachment of "Sean" to the name was not originally the case.

As things stand we have some threads - seemingly only those posted by Salopian - which omit SEAN, and others which include SEAN. This is messy and makes it harder to search for threads. In addition I get the impression that some fwiffers are a little peeved that Sean's name is being omitted.

So, I suggest give our opinions and then, if there is a consensus one way or the other, we stick with that name. I'm sure everyone will respect this and we'll have a consistently named thread.

(My own personal preference is for "Sean" to be included in the thread name.)

Whatcha think guys?

I'm pretty good at pissing off perfectly nice people on horse forums. I don't even have to work at it.

I begin each day with a little prayer, "Please, Lord, no drama today."

Imagine my amazement at the recent drama here.

Depending upon what it is that they start, I prefer the ones who adequately finish.

Sometimes it is good to finish fast.
Sometimes it is good to finish slow.
It depends on what you are finishing.

OK, apart from being one of the funniest threads I've read on fwfr for a long time, perhaps it's time to reach a conclusion? (That doesn't mean a consensus, as clearly there will never be one, simply a conclusion). I have a suggestion, as follows:-

As initiator of FYCTH a.k.a. "Four Your Consideration: Treasure Hunt" I will allow my natural fascist tendencies to come to the fore and add an extra rule to FYCTH that specifies the structure of the opening post (which includes the thread title). I'll base the structure of the opening post on what most consider 'normal' and traditional here. FYCTH threads that don't conform to the specifications are declared null and void and a new thread will be started by someone who intends to conform to the rules absolutely.

I've added the new rule, as follows:-

Four Your Consideration - Treasure Hunt

Sean Says: Do what I say, or die...
Put any five reviews you like in your F.Y.C. list.
Do not use reviews from the previous round - you must change them every round.
Post here to declare that you've done it. Sooner is better than later.
Provide a spoiler warning in your post when appropriate.
You must read the F.Y.C.s of all participants.
The next round starts on Monday or Thursday at 6:00 a.m. FWFR time, whichever comes next.
The initiator of the next round will name the thread "FYCTH - #***" or "Sean's FYCTH - #***", "***" is one integer greater than the number of the current round. The initiator of the next round will copy this post verbatim and it will appear as the opening post of the next round, the only things that may be changed are fonts/colours and smileys (which may be removed altogether if desired) and the inviso comment after "Sean Says:".

Needless to say, anyone is free to disapprove of the new rule and start their own version of FYCTH if they want. Anyway, what sayest thou fwfrers? Do you approve of the new rules or not?

I'm in step.

I was somewhat peeved that I felt the need to bother writing another rule simply to put into writing what was intuitive to most fwfrers (the consistent thread title and preservation of the sensible bullet-point opening post). But I spent more time laughing at this thread than feeling peeved, so no problem.

It is all rather ridiculous, isn't it? But actually it has a lot to do with a larger problem, so well worth following through...

Ah, the rules as defined by Salopian. Of course.

It doesn't seem necessary now to go into details given the way this thread has continued; the last couple of pages seem to make the general feeling on these boards sufficiently clear, but I'll try and make my viewpoint as straightforward as possible. It might ring a few bells around here.

My reaction to the thread in question, and many others, was against what was a sadly consistent and tiring pedantry and superiority that personally puts my back up. As far as I'm aware Salopian we're about the same age, probably have the same level of education, but if you talked to my face the way you do online I'd be amazed, and more than likely not want to talk to you again, not to mention the way you talk to people much older and more experienced than you. It makes me wonder how you interact with your friends and family. On here you seem socially retarded; the way you throw around advice on how to improve reviews or the correct usage of grammar or punctuation would make anyone think you'd actually been asked your opinion. We're not trying to pass an exam here, and no one likes the school swot.

So if that's clear, I think Sean's suggestion is excellent.

I go with Sean's hilarious new rule and will not follow any FYCTH thread which is improperly begun.

Jesus.

It's more a case of what others want rather than what I want. I've written two reviews in the last year, and don't think I've entered FYCTH in that time so don't personally care about it at all. I'm a little uncomfortable with the "If this is what Sean wants then that's fine by me" scenario, particularly as I don't want anything with respect to FYCTH. I do think majority rules though.

So in the absence of a consensus, standardising the format with a rule (to avoid further arguments) does seem to make sense. Doesn't it? Speak up, folks.
