Posted - 08/22/2011 : 08:38:06 Got everyone, but since I can't seem to get any votes for my reviews for 13th Warrior and Beginners, I'll have to delete them and start again.
Oh well... better luck next time, right? |

I usually put in the effort to check before submitting especially clever puns so I don't do a review that is substantially the same as one that's already been done. Definitely I have failed on several occasions. As a rule of thumb, though, if it doesn't truly add a new wrinkle to an existing one, I will hold off.
I have read elsewhere in this forum that the report button is kind of a last resort and it is better to deal directly with the submitter. I imagine there are users who do this in private messaging rather than in the forum - that's the ideal, but I'm not sure how often it happens.
While I have poked fun at Salopian for trolling, I also think he helps us stay honest. And if I am honest, while the sarcasm posted here also made me cringe, it would be hypocritical of me to characterize FWFR.com as a sarcasm-free zone... I'd lose a good chunk of my better fwfrs including Slope. Ian. Trolls. Forum. |

Favourite review, because it managed to include two bits: ChocoLady's
Em-Barris-ing game show hit(man). |

It does do harm, or I wouldn't have bothered to have mentioned it. Obviously it brings a snide negative tone to a community area and it's of no benefit to anyone other than yourself. As for the state of the fourum; what a very grown up response. It's like saying "well, the environment's fucked anyway, so who cares if I burn tyres in my back yard?"

If people cannot even be bothered to do a cursory check of the top reviews let alone any others, then they're going to have to live with a similarly unceremonious response.
You're right. So smack that report button - which is the easiest thing to do and let the MERPs get round to it. And if you must declare that the honour of your fourth highest review for a film has been besmirched just state it if you must but spare us the sarcasm. Do you think your way produces any positive effect at all?

It's lucky that no one has done that Dali/dally pun before, or that Tunick's/tunics one. Oh, wait...
Make your point if you have to but can you ditch the sarcasm? There's no call for it and it doesn't exactly fill the fourum with joy.

N.B. Dick Durock plays Swamp Thing. Bill Pullman is prematurely buried in "The Serpent and the Rainbow". An executed serial killer becomes a malevolent electrical force in "Shocker".
