Posted - 09/24/2007 : 22:06:00 For anyone interested in my tie-in piece for this film, my Morning Star piece uses it to explore the way homosexuality has been portrayed in mainstream cinema.
I AM SO EMBARRASSED -- not to mention SO FURIOUS!!! I've just read through my article and some expletive deleted moron of a sub-editor has needlessly changed a word in the review that not only makes the sentence meaningless, but totally inaccurate. I've just fired off a grumpy eMail to the Arts Editor, but the damage is done. Maybe they'll be able to change the online version. I bloody hope so!
The offending paragraph is near the end and lists some films which have been brave in presenting instances of male homosexuality which help us understand their enforced repression. I quoted Dirk Bogarde's powerful performance in Victim. My original sentence read that he repressed "his true sexuality within a 'normal' marriage" -- I cannot understand why, but someone changed the word 'normal' [which I'd put in quotes to indicate the social prejudices] to same-sex. WHY? The sentence is completely altered and is now totally wrong.
And I'm -
I sure hope no one tampers with your work like that! |

Most wouldn't, I suppose. But I'd bet that somewhere out there, there is someone who would.
Yeah, but apart from Sen ...

Nicely done, agreed - which isn't quite the same as using it as a wank fantasy.
I think the only actual sex-scene turn on I ever had was in Ai No Corrida [BEFORE she cuts off his cock, thank you!] -- it is one of the hottest non-porno films ever ...
but it may have had something to do with the guy I was with at the start of a 7-year affair.
I'm still unconvinced that however well done, explicit sex scenes between 2 guys would actually arouse a straight woman. And, if I'm reading Sen's comments correctly - he backs up my theory that what turns straight men on watching explicit sex between two women, is that at least one of those women needs to be someone the guy wants to shag. Somehow I don't think they'd get wood for a scene between Anne Ramsey [DeVito's mother in Throw Momma From the Train] and Darlene Cates [the woman who played Mrs Grape].

Pride & Prejudice - the miniseries with Jennifer Eale and Colin Firth... they almost kiss once, at the end, when they're married and whoa!
Yep - completely awesome.

Oh man, the looks he gives her in that movie...ugh he looks like he could jump her from across the room, with everyone still there.
Oh, yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Agreed, totally - there was no chemistry in that movie, and they jumbled the story up far too much for my taste. |

Sean, I was thinking about your mathematical idea and wanted to put this to you: is seeing two girls solo but in the same shot as good as a lesbian scene? If contact is a factor, are two straight pairings in the shot as good as one lesbian one? It's an interesting phenomenon.
Good question. I imagine it varies from person to person. For a start, I don't watch porn, it's boring, generic and fake, like watching Tom Cruise run away from a huge explosion. So the 'getting off' bit doesn't do much for me as it's completely fake anyway, they're only acting.
However, I certainly don't mind looking at gorgeous naked women on the screen , and two of them is better than one. So I confess to rewinding the lezzo scene in Mulholland Drive principally due to the nudity of Naomi Watts and Laura Harring who are rather attractive . The fact that they were 'getting off' doesn't mean a lot as they were only acting.
I'm guessing it would be a completely different story if two gorgeous women were shagging in private because they wanted to, and I was peering through a keyhole or one-way mirror, and they didn't know I was watching.
As far as hetero sex-scenes go, I'm not interested in the guy's presence at all. In fact I'd much rather he disappeared off to the side of the screen and stayed there. Urrrk!
So to sum up:- I like gorgeous women getting their gear off on camera. And two is better than one. More than two probably doesn't help as you can't look everywhere at once. |

Posted - 09/28/2007 : 16:54:54 I guess this is as good as any place to comment about the numerous "horse sex" videos on Youtube. I avoid them but accidentally encountered one or two. Even if the video itself is very clinical and instructive in nature (the safe way to correctly handle AI collection), the viewer comments are so lurid that the video is made dirty by association.
As a horse breeder, I fail to understand what is so exciting about watching horse sex. It is just a simple fact of life. Ho hum.
But the video viewer comments lead me to believe that there are an awful lot of people out there who should never reproduce. |

Posted - 09/27/2007 : 18:21:16 quote: Originally posted by Salopian I very much doubt that many girls would be turned on by seeing explicit gay male sex, in contrast to the endless lesbo videos there are for men. But there could be something in the sensuality or romance, as C.L. mentioned.
As a prude and a senior citizen, I agree that I wouldn't be turned on by watching explicit gay sex. Hell, I'm not even turned on by watching explicit heterosexual sex. The whole thing bores me.
What I have found sexy, however, is Steven Rea and Jaye Davidson in their roles in The Crying Game. Jaye Davidson is simply beautiful and Steven Rea is sexy. I also find Forrest Whitaker quite interesting, especially as he ages. I think I will like Brokeback Mountain if I ever see it, especially because of Heath Ledger. To me, Brokeback Mountain is appealing because it is a twist on the star-crossed lovers theme. Boy/girl romance is SO been-there/done-that.
This wasn't film, it was TV, but I liked the tension and the action between Buffy and Spike as Slayer and Vampire on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She was attracted to him but didn't love him. He loved her horribly, terribly but knew she would never love him the same way. Their scene together in the Buffy musical episode, Once More With Feeling is beautiful and funny.
Looking at what I've just written, I guess I want a good context for any sex scenes. The animal thing done in a cursory and obligatory way isn't worth my time. Oh yeah, here come the obligatory sex scene, I say as I get up from the couch and leave the room to go do something more interesting, like take out the trash.
Edited to add that the sexiest movie I've ever seen is GiGi...and they don't even kiss! |

Thank goodness I'm a woman.
I used to like him, but he's been doing so much crap lately - remakes of Father of the Bride, Pink Panther, and The Out of Towners, along with lots of other forgettable stuff. Yeah, I'll watch him when he's on "Saturday Night Live", but he really needs to find some new shtick for his movies soon.
