One of my favourite blog is that of Ken Jennings, the 74-game-winner on the US quiz show Jeopardy!

A recent blog entry was on a new board game called Cineplexity, which sounds like a great game for FWFRers to play. Here's Ken's description:
quote:
Anyway, we played Cineplexity last night with the visiting in-laws, and it was a big hit. Like Apples to Apples, its a card-matching game that takes about ten seconds to learn. All players need to do is yell out movies that satisfy both of the conditions on the two displayed cards. Can you name a buddy movie set in the future? A Will Smith movie with a medical clinic? A movie with both a furnace and a scene set in a restaurant? (I got this one.) A movie with both a reporter and a music lesson? (I didnt think there was an easy answer here, but my father-in-law immediately thought of one.)

Mindy had the most impressive get of all: when the two cards came up Genre: Documentary and Based on a Novel or Short Story, we were about to throw them out, thinking that, by definition, no movie could fit in both categories. Then Mindy [Ken's lovely wife] had a flash of inspiration. What movie did she come up with?

You can find which films fit those answers on his message board, but the great thing is there are no specific number of right answers! how about trying the game here?

The first person to find a post a matching film can then set up a "cineplexity" of their own.

To prime the pump, I'll submit the first pairing:

Find a film that includes a natural disaster and a robot.

Good luck!

The movie poster of The Candidate has Redford blowing a chewing gum bubble - but I haven't seen the movie - I will soon after all the good stuff I've read about it.

But in case that doesn't hold water - there were Wrigley Chewing gum ads in several scenes of the Natural.

Next one:

a prostitute and a playbook

Fantasia (has a scene where ostriches dance, and if there isn't a piano in there somewhere, there is a piano in Fantasia 2000, which is kind of an extension of Fantasia...)

an elevator and a rolling stones song

I was thinking of Swiss Family Robinson. I give up.

O.K., I had Brokeback Mountain in mind for that one although I am sure there must be many. Here's another:

An ostrich and a piano

A postcard and a fishing rod

Half Nelson

Some scenes show him on his sofa and as he is a teacher there is surely chalk.

Alfie fits perfectly! I distinctly recall the scene where Alfie is playing pool with someone, and Jude Law has sex with a couple of older women in that film.

Next: Chalk and a couch.

Dan In Real Life.

Steve Carrell makes 3 different kinds of peanut butter sandwiches for his 3 daughters; Ruthie (Dan's blind date) drives a sporty little convertible.
