One of my favourite blog is that of Ken Jennings, the 74-game-winner on the US quiz show Jeopardy!

A recent blog entry was on a new board game called Cineplexity, which sounds like a great game for FWFRers to play. Here's Ken's description:
quote:
Anyway, we played Cineplexity last night with the visiting in-laws, and it was a big hit. Like Apples to Apples, its a card-matching game that takes about ten seconds to learn. All players need to do is yell out movies that satisfy both of the conditions on the two displayed cards. Can you name a buddy movie set in the future? A Will Smith movie with a medical clinic? A movie with both a furnace and a scene set in a restaurant? (I got this one.) A movie with both a reporter and a music lesson? (I didnt think there was an easy answer here, but my father-in-law immediately thought of one.)

Mindy had the most impressive get of all: when the two cards came up Genre: Documentary and Based on a Novel or Short Story, we were about to throw them out, thinking that, by definition, no movie could fit in both categories. Then Mindy [Ken's lovely wife] had a flash of inspiration. What movie did she come up with?

You can find which films fit those answers on his message board, but the great thing is there are no specific number of right answers! how about trying the game here?

The first person to find a post a matching film can then set up a "cineplexity" of their own.

To prime the pump, I'll submit the first pairing:

Find a film that includes a natural disaster and a robot.

Good luck!

Haven't seen it, but I suspect it does. (I was thinking of Wizard of Oz, but that's not important.)

Ok, TitanPa, make a new pairing.

I assume he means Groundhog Day. The reporters all cover Phil and Bill Murray takes piano lessons.

The Wizard of Oz had a robot????

Find a film that includes The Statue Of Liberty and Jello.

I consider the Tin Man was a robot, although not actually stated as such, because a Kansan farm girl would not likely have heard of the term.

Stuck on the Liberty/Jello film. Was the Jello used to identify vibrations?

I am sure some of the ectoplasmic gook in Ghostbusters was made from Jello, and they habe loads of New York city shots.

To keep things moving along, I will assume I am right (feel free to post otherwise).

Name a movie with

1) a submarine AND 2) a smoking pipe

Does ectoplasm count as jello? (Or jelly to us in the UK)

Salopian - I am going to take your qword on this - remember there is no specific answer to the question so if you can justify it I'd say it goes - I was thinking of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes in which he foils a secret naval plot.

May I propose that when answering the question you justify the answer and then pose the next question. Any movie that fits the bill is the right answer if you can justify it accurately. When the question is solved we can post alternative answers or edit out original query with the film we had in mind - if any.

So in other words, Salopian - you're up.

I justy assume that Jello brand gelatin or something similar was used in the filming of Ghostbusters - there might even have been some in Dana's refrigerator.

Does it count if the thing in the film isn't Jello, but the thing used to represent the thing in the film is? (Maybe I'm making this too complicated here ) I'm assuming we're probably talking within the reality of the film, so I guess ectoplasm doesn't count

And I can't remember any reference to Dana's fridge (let alone the contents of it) in Ghostbusters II. I don't think Lady Liberty appeared in the first film.

ok if you will stipulate to Ghostbusters II having the Statue, then I submit the following bit of dialogue from that movie:

Ray: It looks like a Jell-O mold.
Winston: I hate Jell-O.
Peter Venkman: Oh, come on. There's always room for Jell-O!

I was only guessing. I can imagine Quartermain smoking, but have only seen the film once - which was bad enough. So let anyone have a go and I'll post a poser another time.

ok so I really want this thread to work - so maybe we can move forward - Either Salopian can claim victory and pose th enew question or someone else can offer an answer, justify it and then pose a new question.

YOu are correct. Wow..I didnt think it was that hard. I didnt think there would be a discussion about it. I thought the jello scene was a memorable scene. Plus Liberty was used to make New York come together.
