We are young, Heartache to heartache We stand, No promises, no demands, Love is a battlefield ...
Notes: 1. The mysterious two started out as a pair, male and female, who were strong proponents of ufology, believing that aliens would land and take their cult members off into the sky. They had several aliases, including He and She, Do and Ti, and Bo and Peep. Their real names were Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. The group began to believe that if they were faithful, they would be carried off in the coma of the Hale-Bopp comet in 1997. They combined Christian doctrine (particularly the ideas of salvation and apocalypse) with the concept of evolutionary advancement and elements of science fiction, particularly travel to other worlds and dimensions. Eventually the group became known as Heaven's Gate, and believed the way to enter the next "level" of awareness was to commit suicide, which they did in March 1997. The 1982 film, The Mysterious Two, was loosely based on reports of the cult's activities during the 1970's, which had received extensive media coverage at the time. Applewhite and his co-founder would go on to occasionally use the name "The Mysterious Two" in their web site's materials. 2. Kevin Kline plays a teacher who turns out to be gay in a small Indiana town whose student wins an Academy Award and is outed by the actor in his acceptance speech. Hilarity ensues. 3. Though the tribal genesis isn't identified, it appears to be a very early clan of Neanderthals who build many things and have fire which is still wanted. The male sets his sights on a blue eyed damsel called Evolette or Evol. 4. A chant amongst the card counters to signify a good hand: "Winnah Winnah, chicken dinner!" 5. Agnes is one of the children the ogrish Gru takes to scam the government. And don't forget that Anne Bancroft/Meg Tilly/Jane Fonda classic, Agnes of God. :) |

A hearty shout-out to livie this round. It wasn't until I'd already posted my FYCTH candidates [meaning, first reply] that I realized I was the thread-starter by mere minutes.
Baffy, we definitely have your back here in America, and thanx, livie! |

My pleasure, Randall. I had no idea you had done it until I saved my starter and saw your first post. I used to start it all the time, till I started going to sleep earlier. Lately, my hours have changed. We've got your back BB! |

link to old site only, until I have time to find my way around the new one
4 of these movies have 4 reviews or fewer, so here are some pointers:
Apron Strings is about estranged Sikh sisters. The protags in Quid Pro Quo find solace in pretending to be disabled. Burning Palms consists of a (sub-Solondz) quintet of linked stories on taboo subjects. As its title indicates, Red White & Blue seems to be claiming that protag Ericas chaotic life has some general significance.
