Depends on whether you're on the right side of the Atlantic. . .
or the correct one.

Nah, it's not a regionally-based thing, at least not wholly. Both conventions are used here, but the ...s' one only by people who think the "iz" that is pronounced shouldn't be written in one particular context, against all consistency and for no reason that they can offer.

Benj, my recent Plaster Caster review should read 8" not 8'. Thanks.

I can remember when Cynthia was doing her thing, back in the late 60s. She never called on me 'though.

While I gotcha, I recently edited my "White Dog" review to correct spelling and it now is suffering in pending Limbo.

That's like a Spinal Tap, Stone Henge monument error.

Hence my original suggestion. I have a few reviews that need some spelling or punctuation assistance too, but given the age of my pending list, I am reluctant to shift a published review to the bottom of the heap.

Perhaps there can be an "edited review" flag, that might garner a more cursory/short-term re-review standard? Otherwise, leaving all these changes to benj only multiplies the load.

BTW: I know you are busy benj, so, of course, this is only suggestion, not a complaint.

I had that kind of suggestion for "flagging" reviews that we really, really, really wanted approved sooner. A priority flag, if you will, and Benj said it wouldn't matter, because he would just see the reviews when they came to him in the cue and then look at and approve or reject as he usually does. So, no-go there.

The best way, seems to be to either PM him or start a fourum thread, like this kind, that points out spelling errors. If you're pointing out your own errors instead of others', I'm sure it wouldn't generate the bulk of answers that say things like, "That's not very nice."

Unless there's some clever wordplay going on that's whizzed straight over my head, Puzzgal's misspelled 'tenacious' in her School of Rock review.

Another true noncentz story:

I used to work at this place that produced movie trailers and TV promos. We moved offices one year, into fancy new digs, with better equipment. To publicize the move, we brought out a top photographer from New York who put together a great selection of photos. We paid a graphics house to design an elaborate brochure.

It was a glossy, intricate, top of the line booklet that was meant to show not only how fancy and fun the place was, but also demonstrate what a creative haven the company was - full of new ideas nurtured by our caring executive staff.

The total cost of the photographer and brochure, with added business cards, parchment envelopes, and accompanying DVD was almost $100,000.

With pride, the first ones out of the boxes were handed out to every company member at a buffet breakfast. It was a time of rejoicing and of hope. For my boss, this was the culmination of a career.

As I sipped my coffee, with a smile, I held the brochure out before me. My smile disappeared.

The cover was supposed to read (name changed to protect the innocent):

Big Trailer Productions: A new look, still a cut above, with the same nurturing environment.

What it said was:

Big Trailer Productions: A new look, still a cut above, with the same neutering environment.

Yup. Neutering. The word had made it through spell-check without my boss noticing and the printer refused to pick up the tab to reprint it.

It was a disaster.

Ouch!

Spell-checkers are wonderful things, though as noncentz points out they have their limitations. We had one (probably still have) that failed to highlight words wi8th numbers in the middle. It also took a dislike to some perfectly legitimate words (I've taken to clicking on the 'add to dictionary' button to spare myself the annoying red underlining). My favourite was 'borehole', which the spell-checker rejected; it suggested an alternative: 'brothel'. (Perhaps it though the former was a slang expression for the latter.)

My husband wrote a review of a movie for our college paper. He wanted his review to read, "I can not say enough about the subtleties of this movie." Instead the review ran as this, "I can not say enough about the subtitles of this movie." And, it was a foreign language movie with subtitles, which made it even funnier.

I've had this problem too. Benj had not changed it - it just did it automatically for some reason. Lemmy or benj, if you find a way around it, please tell me.
