A friend of mine wrote a grade-school paper about the Jewish high holidays. The teacher crossed off "Shofar" and provided the correction of "Chauffeur".
The ritual "blowing of the Shofar" will never be the same. |

I just noticed this thread topic, and I thought I would make a contribution (if anyone cares).
Possessives
Edit:
**Am investigating further...seems there really is a firestorm about this topic... with no true authoritative consensus.

Whoa. And the firestorm starts. Good post, StaLean, but be prepared to defend your position! I'm on your side. *later* Stick to your guns - you had some good stuff in there!

Sorry guys! I was making a point about proper noun possessives (using 's or s'). The article that I posted said to use s' with all proper nouns ending in 's,' but I have since found that there is no definitive authority on this subject. In other words, the so-called authorities are "all-over-the-board" on this subject.

That article, wherever it was from, was absolute nonsense. It would mean that one would have to write "Louis'" when one meant and said "Louis's" etc. etc. etc. Utter, utter balderdash.
Since I suspect that no-one other than me would withhold votes on this matter, people would be best off choosing the rational option for their reviews. |

During my hiatus, I dropped waaaay out of the top 10, so I decided to focus more on quality. As I was Smithee-ising some of my older crap reviews, I also edited one of my older reviews to correct the spelling. Although I did not wish to disown it, it was promptly rejected. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I re-submitted it with an explanation, but I just wanted to see if I was SOL.

Meant to say earlier, "Glad to have you back, Al." I've missed your 'mug' popping up in the fourum.
I had one sent back to my pending the other day when I tried to place it on my "FYC" list. I just told benj about it in one of the other threads, and it was reapproved. Hope this helps.

Up close and personal has two of seven reviews mixspelled.
"Redford forcasts Pfeiffer's future." Should be "forecasts".
"Wheathergirl's star is born." Should be "weathergirl" unless there's something hidden there.
