Beannachta na file Pdraig!
Will ya have some votes? Ah ye will... ah go on....
If you respond to this thread today with a link, my traditional Paddy's day whacking stick will bait ye with some traditional Paddy's day votes, so it will (green ones). So it's kind of like a parade.. but without the standing in the cold and the floats and green beer and that...
Who's first!!? |

You know, it had never before occurred to me (probably because of the "Porrig" pronunciation) that 'Pdraig' was cognate with 'Patrick'. |

Bosh! Sal, you've been whacked!
Yeah, irish isn't the easiest language on paper! Names are especially tough: I'm thinking of the likes of aoife, caoimhe, sofra, aisling, deirdre etc.
Short story: I have a friend called Aoife (pronounced Ee-feh), and when we were in school together in France, the french teachers - in all innocence - pronounced her name "Woof". |

No, no, don't go to any bother. I'm not in the mood for your votes.
Well, if it's no trouble, and yer planning to vote anyway.
Alright I'll have a vote or two then.
My parents were from Emyvale, just outside Monaghan, and I've got about 30-40 cousins sprinkled throughout the Emerald Isle. I'm also a "Patrick" with children named Brendan & Erin, so Cead Mille Failte right back at ya!
