I know this is a very personal question, but I have to ask ...
have any of you been MERPed recently?

I have had a happy flurry of MERPed reviews the last few days, on some very recently submitted reviews.
Still have a sizable backlog, and as always these days the approvals don't seem to be in sequence, but the activity still seems to be there |

Half a dozen approvals and a couple of declines this weekend.
Didn't get voiped this weekend, however. |

I had a review approved for Hoot. I thought that was a hoot.
I'm not a MERP and don't play one in the movies... |

I meant the latter. I've had 10 passed in the past week (one in the last two days) and a pending list of 190.
Clearly all the MERPs are working on Bife's gems.
Lemmy, what's "voiped"?

Well, after a steady trickle it all went Quiet on the MERP Front, then just had a couple of rejects.
Like you, I have a loooooong pending list, including a few that could just get me a couple of more accolades ... e.g. The Lodger - amended to the Hitch version, and some of the musicals. [nudge, nudge, ]
What I'll NEVER understand is the arbitrary nature of what gets picked for the MERP-y eyes ... I'd have thought there might be a way to take care of the oldest submissions first, but there must be a different logic on Planet Benj/MERP.
PLEASE NOTE: NONE of this is meant as a complaint. I hereby state: I LOVE BENJ! I LOVE MERPS! They do a fab job!
I am but a lowly and 'umble BaftaBabe in the Woods. Tossing down my breadcrumbs. Hoping a MERP will pass by and pick it up.

Hey whippery,
like you I have only had about ten passed in the last few weeks. In saying that a few weeks earlier they passed 30 in one week so its swings and roundabouts for us as the merps wend their way through the flurry of new entrants after Benj's radio appearance and the various publications we have been in recently.
Long live the Merps!!

Just about every 2 to 3 weeks a thread arises asking complaining commenting or hinting at the lack of activity. Personally I am starting to get bored with the discussion
the merps and benj have a life they probably have families they probably have jobs they probably have interests other that FWFR yes I know its difficult to believe.
Okay peoples list of waiting to be declined reviews may be growing so what. If you had to pay per review submitted people would be a whole lot more careful on what they submitted.
We need to appreciate the service that we have, lord only knows it a thousand times better than when I and a whole heap of other users started here.
The order in which they are declined is not really that important and to be honest I personally don't care, if you have problems with the system either
offer to be a merp or learn to be patient or create your own (none copycat) site or send PM's to the people who might be able to assist Benj et al and see what response you get.
People, we are here for fun and waiting to get our reviews declined may be annoying but live with it please.
end of rant!

Additionally to what Josh said, there's an interesting phenomena that happens whenever MERPs start making serious progress on the backlog... people start submitting reviews more quickly.
As an example of what we're working against, typically there's around 300-400 new reviews sent in every day. A few weeks back, when we were last seriously knocking down the backlog, this nearly doubled. This kept going as long as reviews were flying through and some time afterwards, too.
Basically, it seems the harder the MERPs work, the harder the reviewers work. And this is the unfortunate offshoot from it- when the MERPs finally don't have enough free time to process 600 reviews a day there are suddenly bigger periods of other peoples' reviews between your own reviews |

Yes, I see this tendency a little in myself. There is a feeling that if theres already a big backlog its best not to write too many reviews whereas if the reviews are getting considered quickly then let's write quicker.
I think Josh raises an important point in his post.
IF it is the case that the system could do with more MERPs then I don't think you should be shy about selecting a few more people to be asked if they could help out. Your last post on this subject said that you were reluctant to ask more people to help but frankly I think that if there are people you think are suitable there's no harm asking them, and if they say yes then doesn't that help out a little? And if they say no then you've lost nothing and can legitimately point out that if experienced, suitable people can't find the time to help out then we have to live with the delays.
I find the emotionalism which all too frequently accompanies these discussions, usually from people who wrongly feel themselves to be attacked personally - your current post excepted from that - to be an unhelpful distraction from considering possible solutions to a real if admittedly tolerable problem.

I am guilty. When my pending pile gets low, I tend to get into a flurry of writing. Sorry all you MERPs!

Lemmy, what's "voiped"?
This link explains voip.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoIP
There is a silly ad campaign here that plays with the word as in "You been voiped yet?" or "I get voiped regularly and love it".... |
