I enter and vote for FYC sometimes. I feel bad when I go to someones FYC and dont vote for any. I also vote for what I like. But i too have noticed vote swapping. Someone who has zero votes getting all their zeros upped. Look at Me. I have alot of Zero votes. You dont hear me complainin (til now). There are also those people who play the "I had a great Day" voting rampages. You post so they vote for your reviews and they in return hope that you vote for them. I play some of those too. But I once played that game and someone did vote for my reviews...but They only voted for 3 reviews. Thats it. Only 3 reviews. Remember people, We can see what you vote for, If you do go on vote rampages. so them voting clued me on maybe 2 things.
1. They already voted for alot of my reviews already.
2. They voted for the ones they liked (which doesnt say much about my reviews) in return they probebly thought they were going to get alot of votes.
also onto another topic. I make accolades (cause they are fun) But I dont make it a point to find accolades and complete them. It would only bring out the simple reviews in me to get passed just to get an accolade. I write reviews whne I get great thoughts. I dont just review to review. Ive had writers block and Ive had times where My pending list was huge. See I dont try to be simple. I may be one of the few people in the top 100 that have many 0 votes for my reviews.
And now you know what Bafta has done. And what she plans to do next. Now you know what newbie think about this place. We need to make this place better so newbies dont think we are all about votes or accolade geting or simple reviewing. |

I was encouraged by the discussion here, but that string of pearls deserves some whine. 
Not a joke or an experiment. A quick browse of the recently approved reviews makes it easy to know that you're talking about me, so why didn't you just name names? |

Tori: you should check your email (which I wish you had done a little while ago). There's nothing magical about the disappearance: I wrote to Tori when I saw her first post and told her personally that I thought she was not posting them seriously, but acknowledged that she apparently was. Frankly, I didn't think anyone would go searching to see the reviews (my bad), so I proposed to her that I should have addressed my criticism privately.
I then apologized and said that I would delete the post!
Since that was a private "message to user," I guess she didn't check her email yet. In theory, I thought the post and her rejoinder would both disappear, she would continue to adore and worship me but perhaps stop with all the stalking and late night calls to my mother, and I would quietly vow not to post stuff too quickly without thinking it through more thoroughly. (No, Tori doesn't do that stuff, you silly biscuit! It's a joke.)
But now that we seem to have created a monument, why not continue?
Personally, anyone can feel free to grill me on one or a thousand of my reviews -- publically, privately, or through psychic vibrations. It might piss me off, it might tickle me, or it might leave me numb; whatever the case, I promise that the FIRST thing I will do is evaluate whether the critic has a valid point.
In the "Generic Reviews" thread, we routinely single out reviews that site users generally consider too ... too ... what's the word? ... oh yeah: GENERIC! In fact, that thread, as effectively defined by its very existence whenever it pops up, serves as a mechanism for the FWFR community to tidy up the site by calling on benj to delete certain sub-par reviews. As I recall, anyone whose reviews are affected can freely explain their case in opposition and let the chips fall where they will. (See also "Reviews that are mixspelled," "Reviews that are wrong," or "Duplicate Reviews" -- all being site-tidy and phosphate-free efforts at communal improvement!)
THIS thread -- all 7 pages of it so far -- has given expression to a considerable sentiment about relative quality issues, one being the proliferation of, let's call them "basic reviews." The difference, however, is that the sentiment expressed herein is that we all need to police ourselves and perhaps avoid adding to the population of "basic reviews"! Nobody's calling on benj to go delete them (at least I don't recall any such effort). But even so, everyone is free to express different opinions about what is and is not a "basic review."
While I thought I was being somewhat cryptic as well as funny (hence the reference to "whine": Get it? Get it? Whine sounds like "wine," and pearls are supposed to dissolve in wine? Get it? Get it? Go read it again! Get it now? Huh? Huh?) I apologize AGAIN to Tori if she thinks I intended any attack upon her person. I also apologize AGAIN if I subjected her to any untoward embarassment. I also apologize AGAIN that I didn't think to keep my criticism private (no, not "to myself": private).
But I do not back off of my opinion. And while I understand that you are upset Josh, particularly about another thread, I ask you to pause for a moment and recompose.
This is a marketplace of ideas. Buy and sell, give and take. We are all free to disagree. It doesn't mean, however, that I hate you.
But I do hate Randall because he caught me plagerizing. (Just kidding, folks: it's only a joke.) |

I never accused you of hating anybody and I don't wish to stiffle discussion, I just don't appreciate the way that this fantastic friendly community has become a bitchy biting attack community. Maybe I need to chill , I most probably need to take a holiday, the marking must be getting too much.
Can't we just return to the previous state of affairs where we all tried to respect each other, whilst working on improving the quality of our own reviews.
