As somebody who loves a good conspiracy theory, I was wondering if it is just coincidence that whenever I log on to find I've once again had only 2 or three reviews accepted, or indeed none, 'calmer' (and only 'calmer') seems to have dominated the 'latest reviews' page just before I am confronted by my own disappointment.
Could it be that the MERPS are self-serving members of a cabal - a secret sect that helps its own by giving them a leg up the rankings whenever they need it, leaving the rest of us underlings to beg and scrape for the crumbs from the table? Or am I just paranoid?
And is this forum being bugged by the CIA? |

Well, you are a little paranoid, but don't worry, we know where you live and someone will be visiting you at 03:00 local time to explain the way it is and help you through this difficult time.

I've suspected as much before...sometimes I've gone a whole week without a single approve/decline, even though I submit 10-15 reviews per day. Then some kind of MERP laxative takes effect, and a whole raft of them gets judged at once. But I can't comment on whether the MERPies favor any single reviewer over another...I kinda doubt it because that isn't benj's way, and I think if that were actually the case, he would put a stop to it pronto. |

Good theory, but not the case I'm afraid. I was concerned about this potential bias when first introducing the MERPs and as a result the system simply does not allow any of them to work on one and only one reviewer's reviews at a time.
Or I could just be spreading disinformation here |

There are two (non-conspiracy-theory) reasons for calmer dominating like he does:
The first is calmer submits a fuckton of reviews. Of course, I don't know how much exactly, but I'd wager it's a LOT.
The second is calmer has a tendency to do a bunch of reviews for each single film. I don't know too much about how the MERPs do their business, but it seems like pending reviews are looked at based on what film they were submitted for - i.e., someone looks at all reviews currently pending for film X all at the same time (or maybe all reviews submitted for film X in some time period). That way, if you wrote 6 reviews for film X, and all are acceptable, you get 6 new reviews all at once. This phenomenon has happened to me and I'm sure anyone who's submitted multiple reviews for one movie in one sitting can back me up on this.

Then again, "calmer" could be the alter ego of "benj," who routinely passes his own reviews under the pseudonym just so no one will openly blame him for passing his own reviews.
But hey: I'm just speculating. |

Of course the MERPs aren't free masons. I doubt if any one of them is a bricklayer and if they are, they won't do it for free. |

But then again, submitting reviews during one of their numerous tea breaks (bag in mug, coloured up with plaster) could explain the delays. Multiple reviews for one film do get batch processed. Sean I heard that, with the little holes in my head, but I'm not going to bite. |

I have just been corrected.
I mean I just spontaneously corrected myself:
Calmer is not an alter ego.
There is no such thing as alter egos.
I want to apologize for any misunderstanding.
No, I am not me this is not benj writing this. |

Too late I'm afraid. The team visiting Face will also be visiting you, and once they've had an instruction there's no turning back.
(This is no Freemasonry ritual; they have the same brand of mobile phone as me, so once they've been despatched we can't recall them to base because the effing things are crap.) |

Too late (as Conan drops another rung on the FWFR ladder). Congratulations Calmer, on your leap from 8 to 6. I'm off to deliver some celebratory votes. If anyone else wishes to join me click here. Anyone wishing to give me consolation votes may click here. |

Okay, I've been given some time away from the ward to write this, and I'm feeling better now. I understand that calmer is probably a real person and just an honest-to-goodness devoted fwf reviewer who deserves every review he has accepted. And yes, I am taking my meciation, Nurse Ratchett.
But I'm just wondering...who are the MERPS and how are they selected? Is it possible to one day become a MERP. I mean, are they selected on rotation, or is it a seasoned panel of hoary old FWFRs locked away in an inner sanctum somewhere in the bowels of the Earth? Are they even aware of one another's identity?
